Just suck it up like a man and put it in a general inventory slot.

I carry a tinker bag, a large soiled, a lionhide, my jboots and a greater lightstone in general inventory. This puts me at 18 weight at lvl 55 which is below the penalty weight.

Swapping is a hassle, when you get to the levels where it really matters you can totally make it work with them in general inventory.

At the moment I have a similar setup. Same bags but also a shralok pack. With my tstaff equipped I'm at 18 and at 52 that leaves me .9 to cap which isnt much to work with. I guess it doesn't matter anyway because I can't solo that camp effectively and after spending 6-7 hours there with a friend and losing the roll I have no desire to do that again. Think I will just stock up on pots until I can afford to buy an MQ.

It is known that pots are much more efficient use of plat than Jboots. 7k in pots is an insane amount of time sowed.

Edit: doesn't mean I don't have Jboots on all my toons.....

I got a bit lucky Jboot wise; I got the ring on my warrior while running thru S Ro to guk. On my Wiz I was levelling in Oasis on specs and managed to grab a ring with frequent 9pm checks. Basically lucking out on getting a ring (or making it as least disruptive as possible) seems to be a solid strategy. Before I got them I'd just use sow pots or donate for passing sow in the area.

Peridots make good currency as they are low weight and worth circa 10pp each. It's nice to have something of value to show appreciation for/buy the help given by others.

I've found as you progress in experience you'll find excess platinum to invest into bags (which I really can't stress enough for a monk). Being a successful monk is all in the preparedness. I carry a lot of utility for those "just in case" moments.

JBoots allure is that they are instant click. If your sow gets dispelled? Click your boots. Need to get out of somewhere in a hurry? Click your boots and outrun most mobs. Weigh reduction bags negate their 2.5 weight. Also, my bags are chock full of stuff.

In the end its up to you though. With my setup I carry a SOW pot and boots (Potion for any racing type event). Best advice I can give ya is play as you go and earn your pixels. There's no sweeter sensation then when you get rewarded for an investment.

Get a tinkerer bag with your plat. Jboots are more a luxury on a monk than anything. Sow pots will serve you better.

I'd do this. If you already have the cash for the MQ get a tinkerer bag and a grim aura earring and a couple sow pots. Should be able to get that all for 7k. Once you have all that get Jboots yourself. AC in Sro just requires a bit of luck, if you are applying yourself to it shouldn't take to long and I think you will be happier in the long run.

Monks aren't really a solo class, so chances are there will be someone to sow you. If you are soloing, chances are you aren't up against mobs that dispel and sow pots should do you just fine till you do get your boots.

When a monk is pulling, they often cannot accept a buff without risking training the group (assuming they're in range of the Druid / Shaman / Ranger in the first place, which is often not the case). JBoots have saved me from death and from failed pulls in many situations where SoW pots would not have helped. The 7k was money well spent.

Agreed. If you can see yourself using it in any situation it's worth having it as a monk. Might need bandages? Get them. Might need to Gate? Get a potion. Might need to quickly recast a movement increasing buff on yourself instantly? Get JBoots.

Best advice is to send high level monks a tell and see if they'll give you some hints/tips. I'm always open to helping out with suggestions and I'm sure many are as well.
