It's partially introductory. Didn't spent much time selecting songs. Too much effort [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
Still need to go into doom metal and its derivatives and doomish metal. Folk metal, industrial and prog. Fuck groove metal. If there are some metal fans here it could be interesting to go deeper into certain styles. For death metal for example you can focus on technical styles, 'brutal' styles, old school styles, styles that fuse it with prog, the swedish stuff etc. Can dedicate a very long post to each single style. Post some bands/songs if you'd like. What does yee fancy in metal? I'd say my favourites would be traditional, thrash and black metal.

Manowar is like the personification of power metal and they were the world's loudest band at certain points.

List invalid, missing Metallica. Metallica ranks around #3 of most influential metal bands ever, and certainly the top thrash metal band of history. Personal taste, they rank above the top two most influential metal bands of the widely accepted lists around.
And I wouldn't put any form of punk in resemblance of metal, may as well throw country in too. They only share roots, being from blues and then rock. Time scale may be the same as with most rock (common 4/4), but technique is completely different.

DOOM METAL
Traditional doom metal They retained parts of "metal" that most other metal bands shed. Very 70s music with a quite a direct lineage from Black Sabbath. Blue Cheer was also a very important band. Happy to see no metalcore. One of the few genres of music I generally despise ^^

The term is a quite broad though and it does include bands like Converge and The Dillinger Escape Plan. I do like them. But the bands that are generally called metalcore... yeah, not a fan.
