Can respect liberals if they just change the argument to something like this.

If you are for heavy government control and intervention just be forthright about it and people will respect that. If you want to change the constitution, stand behind that.

Mao, Hitler, and Stalin were all respected at one point too. Gun control works for Europe because its a different culture there. Our criminals act a little more depraved when they commit crimes. That's why all of our police are armed and Europe's are not. The depravity of US criminals is well recognized.

I'm not necessarily for "heavy government control and intervention" and I definitely don't identify as a liberal. I find a lot of positions that get called "liberal" as incoherent as positions based on "freedom." I don't particularly care about the integrity of the constitution but I do care about the integrity of discussions about it, so I appreciate your point and I agree: getting lumped in with liberals would annoy me a lot less if they (assuming we're thinking of the same kinds of people) were honest with themselves and others.
