you guys gotta be kidding right? the xp loss is what makes EQ different from everything else. It the element that creates all the intensity. People wouldnt care nearly as much about death if it didnt cause you to lose so much xp. I agree it harsh, It was harsh back in 1999 too. But at the same time, it made what XP I earned feel THAT much better. To remove the XP penalty would completely ruin this server imo. Its the fear of loss that makes us want to gain even more!

Why not just go the other extreme? Your character dies and 1) they lose a level and 2) you are unable to play that character for a week.

Seconded. I mean, if your character comes back to life retaining his memories every time he dies, wouldn't it make sense that death and resurrection count as a learning experience? Most times we learn more from our failures rather than our successes.

P.S.: This thread proves that roughly 2 out of 3 forum users have no sense of humor or sarcasm detection.
