I'm new to p99 but I have to say I'm rather enjoying the never ending parade of "try red" threads and comments. In games like BDO when PvE focused players complained about the griefing or other PvP antics the response from PvP players was swift and harsh and usually amounted to something like, "if you don't like PvP don't play a PvP game idiot" or just "GTFO" but all the while knowing many would stay so long as there was so much PvE content to do.

When people requested a PvE focused server (consensual PvP only) they were ridiculed (even though everyone knows the real reason they were against it is the mass exodus of players from forced PvP servers). It's refreshing to see PvP players so openly and quite pitifully begging PvE players to come play with them. I imagine the same thing would happen with BDO if they created a couple PvE focused servers that only allowed PvP between guilds at war.

I really enjoyed leveling on red, but the who facade falls apart the second you actually start interacting with the red player base. Once I hit 54 me and the few guys I duo'd with couldn't go near any popular zone without some epic rogue or t-staff monk harassing us. Ya, it is a pvp server, but a velious geared 60 rog vs a 54 cleric still rocking some bronze is lame for everyone involved. Most people on red aren't looking for pvp, they're looking for easy kills and opportunities to talk shit. It gets old real quick.

Isn't that a description of 95% of "PvP" players in all games? In the large majority of my PvP experiences (granted I don't seek this out as I'm not a PvP player) it's always someone ganking or griefing or 3 on 1 or a huge zerg force attacking a small group etc..Ironically, one of the exceptions to this (in my experience) was in WoW doing Arena and Battlegrounds. At least there you get relatively "equal" teams (with the obvious huge exceptions of gear and skill and coms).

As of 11:45 a.m. Central time:

Project 1999 PVP Red Server has 73 people potentially slaughtering each other.

Eve Online has 25,701 people backstabbing each other, unless they're ship spinning in station.

Red seems dead to me... *shrugs*

only in games where pvp was an after thought. In games where pvp is the focus you still find people you will hate but you can just mute them and if its league report them so riot will perma mute them for you.

I agree, it's really a small playerbase who thinks this is Counterstrike: Elven Offensive and rub it in everyone's faces. I think pvp is fun, and has it's place. I enjoy crushing skulls and winning pvp battles. I personally don't find it fun to destroy scrubs in bronze but the only way it's going to change is if they start enforcing the pnp. Do it for a month, ban a bunch of people. Change some of the server dynamics (Seb is basically off limits, no pvp level limit, a 60 rogue who is always raid buffed and has like 6 clickies so you can dispel any of those buffs haunts the place whenever he can't find a puppy to kick. Try and be 52 and level in seb, get one shotted)

In my view yellow text contributes a lot to this, it's positive reinforcement for behavior we don't actually want (griefing, noobslaying) and then you have the added benefit of these same sociopaths having access to a global megaphone -- trust me the benefits of global ooc are outweighed by the negatives.

no matter what we do or how nice we are to people these experiences are the ones that are going to stick with them. You have to make sure they have like 10 nice experience to counter every bad one and that just doesn't happen on this server.

You can beat those guys though. They are easily bored, log out for 10 minutes and they log out once they don't have a puppy to kick. Never engage them in any conversation, just ignore them. Literally /ignore. Learn to coordinate dispels etc but it's asking a lot. Honestly if you wanna come to red you can't be the kind of person who gives up easily.

oh and plugging. even if you do manage to beat the griefers they run to a zoneline and plug, denying you any satisfaction.

that's a huge mechanic that needs to change.
