dota 2 at least has some semblance of rewarding mechanical skill

true video game superstars play games that actually require skill other than "teamwork"

like quake and brood war
A Quake Live tourney between R99 players is my wet dream.

league's business model is directly at odds with it being a decent competitive game. Makes money on releasing deliberately unbalanced champs. Not to mention the sweeping rebalances and nerfs constantly. Practicing doesn't make you better at the basic mechanics of the game so much as making you more comfortable with this week's balance.

why anyone would ever consider playing a game like that competitively is completely beyond me. The only skill or practice that matters is your playtime during the last 3 months. Game is for chimp-level IQs if you arent playing it as a party game you can actually include gurlgaymers in at a lan.

Good thing the ban system takes care of that, rendering your 1 OP champ per patch cycle absolutely meaningless in the competitive scene.

Every champ gets tuned down within 2 months. If not, oh well. The ban coverage is huge.

OP champ myth status and its impact on the competitive game: Busted.

Leagues hands down. Teamfight intensive gameplay and intense jungling and laning.

Most of my DOTA friends prefer the lower APM, higher specialized strategies and builds in DOTA, in addition to the game not requiring a good team to win, or any teamwork at all in some cases.

If you get an educated guy who's played both DOTA and Leagues to be honest with you, he will tell you the reason he quit Leagues is the APM and impact are just too steroided out and he can't hang anymore. Its too nerve racking.

The APM of leagues is like 3x times DOTA.

Pokes? DOTA doesn't have the laning pokes that leagues has. Leagues pokes are brutal. One wrong move in lane and you lose the game. 1-2 deaths in DOTA = big deal. 1 Death in leagues = GG surrender in 20. Very unforgiving.

Theres just too much to list. I no longer play Leagues, neither do my friends. We play DOTA for its de-emphasis on teamfighting, de-emphasis on laning, and de-emphasis on holding lane.

You die in lane once on solo top in Leagues and its gg. DOTA is much more relaxed and forgiving. Supernerds just can't man up and admit Leagues steroided gameplay and unforgiving team meta is the reason they don't like it. So they make up strawmen ala the pro-DOTA posts in this thread.
