Why are there so few paladins in the game? Just curious

For a long time the hybrid classes had a 40% exp penalty associated with them...it wasn't so bad if you were the highest level in the group since exp would be distributed relative to how much total exp you had earned but this would make the rest of the group suffer even more...

Additionally they aren't a critical raid class, a guild really only wants one paladin at a raid to cast divine strength on the tanks... which isn't like make or break
