I'm just ready for a graphics overhaul. I know it takes time, though.

The time is near. All weapons done now and it looks amazing. Even the basic stuff.
THIS IS STILL CLASSIC - Just CRISP edges and enhancement of the blurred originals.
This does not effect zone time unless you have shit internet or a bad computer.
I zone near instantly and never have crashed (zoned in and out of a completed HD zone into a non completed zone and back over 200+ times) 0 crashes
- all bugs are fixed afaik!

Cucumbers killed it! and also
like check out the whip by Paully G

Or his other amazing stuff. Classic yet crisp. All weapons / Shields / Armor - DONE.
HD Zones and Dragons are in progress. ToV is done and looks INSANELY COOL.

Also internet speed won't affect loading/zoning times at all if you have more texture data, since it's not server-side and stored in your EQ directory. Not exactly sure how much the file size increase will be, but we're compressing all of our textures to minimize it as much as possible. On any system that isn't a potato there will be no noticeable change in load/zone times.

So there will be two different packages once this thing is done. The basic one will be more classic looking, so nothing too fancy - mostly just higher resolution textures, better texturing and coloring, with some of the new textures for stuff that looked bad even at higher resolution, or looked way better with a new texture.

Then there will be a fancier package which will include lots of brand new textures like the redone elementals, the hi resolution character textures that Chebby, Joyelle, and Apog made, and maybe some other stuff - I'm working on redoing wolf textures at the moment. Lots of stuff is still changing - the torch in the image above has been scrapped, for example, and the new one looks a lot more classic.

Thumbs up

Nice guys, looking good!

I had started up-ressing all the zone files but never finished. I'm interested in what process you guys are using. I was using a program called Alienskin and resizing that way. Only downside was that the only way I could figure out how to batch it was to use a mouse recording program and click some OK buttons. Worked but was tedious and tied up my computer for a while.

These were the zones that I have finished. They're 1024x1024.

One issues that I ran into was that the new s3d files are huge. I got around that by saving the textures as for-web jpegs and renaming them to .bmp's. Seemed to work although I did get some errors that might have been related to that, never spent the time to track them down. If you run them through http://tinypng.com that would make them much smaller file size also.

Also, yeah, the character ones were done by hand and took forever.

PS: For the love of God use Imgur. Photobucket sucks [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Cucumbers spearheaded the project by doing mass upscales of all character and armor textures with a program called Waifu which, yes, is hilariously used to upscale images of anime characters for screenprinting onto body-sized pillows, aka waifus. It has some really great de-noise algos and a powerful Caffe-based GUI which lets you do tons of images at once. I haven't used it yet cause my GPU doesn't support it (need to order a GeForce card), so I'm just manually redoing tons of weapons and items and stuff. We're pretty much done with handheld items now except epics. We could definitely use your help doing zones and anything else, though.

Yeah, we're doing the same thing - you have to vertically invert most images before repacking them into the S3D. Also ran into some weird coloring issues but wasn't too hard to fix.

That's a great idea - we're probably going to have to do this because even though we're initially compressing everything to jpeg, there will be a final conversion to DDS which will bring everything back up to bitmap size.
