Finally, the OP assumes that petitioning wont ever become an issue on red -- not matter how many people join the server and how much competition is created. I have already heard people bitching about Empire petitionquesting last time they had any competition.
Where's The Duke and Nihilum?

I'd like to reach out to the pals I made while I played on this server. I know some of you are disillusioned by the raid scene and rules put in place to keep the competition "fair". In short, it's been a disaster.

This server is comprised of way to many high end raiders participating in an arms race. People are pushing the envelope of what's acceptable and creating an amazing razor's edge of competition. Unfortunately, this is often at the expense of new rules being created to stifle creativity and encourage more time invested into preparing for raids, tracking, and logging in instantly at any hour of the day.

At this point, it's pretty clear. You're not playing a game anymore. Some of the most fun I've had were the rush of those old PD races. It was exhilarating, but it came at the cost of sitting at your chair with your hand hovering on your keyboard for up to 16 hours at a time. This just seems insane to me now.

I left this server just over a year ago to start fresh on red. I joined at a time when cross server transfers were legal but I didn't really utilize them. I started fresh on a server without any gear on a class I've never played before (Necromancer) and without any clue how to PvP.

It was more rewarding than I can even express. Seeing the game in a whole new way without the stress of petition quest was amazing.

I joined a small guild and we leveled up quickly. I was level 35 before I even upgraded my starter level 1 robe. Yes, we came across fungi twinks. Yes, they killed a few of us but the xp rate was so accelerated that you never had to worry about the same twink for more than a day before you had leveled beyond their range (+ or - 4 levels).

I had a blast. Level 30 pvp was just as thrilling as any PD race. I died. I learned. I made more friends with the people fighting me than any random groups on blue. I felt like I did playing eq for the first time 15 years ago. I just saw PvP as a method to resolve disputes without GMs. A red friend who came from blue said, "it's like trying to describe what sex is like to someone whose never had it."

I'm not going to say it's perfect but I will say it's nothing like the toxic community these forums make it out to be. It's the same as blue - there's good and bad but overwhelmingly more good people. The absence of variance or insane raid rules more than makes up for a handful of Crushbone griefers.

If a group of people were to come from blue and form up on red, you would be surprised at how easily you could establish a foothold on the raid scene. I know you guys have seen this thread a thousand times in a thousand ways but being able to raid at set times 3 hours a night, 4 nights a week is something that everyone should be able to do in velious, even without joining the top guild. Here's a writeup from Gongshow in empire on the topic:

If you're interested in starting on red please shoot me a PM. I can help out with some starter weapons or plat for spells.

Thanks for reading,

Heebo/Yibz

I didn't join empire until well after I was 60 and there were no other guilds interested in raiding or contesting.

Maybe Red should try a closed invitation, and it might make people feel special enough to go.

Hi there, I co-lead one of the "2nd" tier guilds on red 99 <Friends> and I am here to tell you that if any guild from blue wants to roll here and try and raid with 40-50 people my guild will destroy your guild's raids 100% of the time with a 0% chance of failure on our part. We did it to TMO and we will do it to you!

Anyone who says <Empire> griefd <TMO> off the server is dumb. it was <Friends>. <Friends> made it a priority to disrupt <TMO> raids and make them log off where <Empire> only wanted to succeed. <Empire> came after <TMO> a few times cause tiggles tried thumping his chest and flexing his ego in a really stupid way and a really bad time for this guild.

Yeah this is 100% true we wiped TMO day after day on every mob/raid they tried and forced them to loot and leave, after a few short weeks the guild collapsed and mostly everyone joined Empire.

If a new guild were to start on Red coming from Blue I can assure you it would be hell.

you give yourself too much credit. you actually spent months, not "short weeks" doing such, and it really did have minimal impact to our morale. what killed the guild were internal factors for the most part. darkdeath burned out on being shoehorned into single handedly leading the guild, and no other leadership figures stepped up to lessen the burden. gotta keep in mind the guy never signed up to lead the guild, he just stepped up out of necessity.
but ya the only people who believe that empire griefed tmo off the server were either
>not in tmo
>warmbody nonfactors who had no clue what was going on with the guild internally
>not in tmo long enough to know, or only in the guild right after the good guys absortion
