I can totally see why you should be guaranteed the 30k loot by default, because after all, a totally useless pair of boots or gloves worth 400pp may drop for my class

TStaff dropped for my group about 3 weeks ago. 6 of us rolled, I happened to win (playing my monk). I played around with it for a brief period of time before selling it. Unless its a guild group or group of really close friends, I wouldn't have let them do need before greed on an item like this even if it meant I got to win it. After winning the tstaff, I let the other monk in the group have my SoS (he had SoS and a crap offhand). He insisted on returning the SoS when he finished his epic, and used that SoS until about 3 days ago when he finally got his epic and sent me a tell to return the blunt.

"Need before Greed" is not really a fair loot system outside of guilds (people who work together for a common purpose) or a group of very tight knit friends who level together. The only really fair loot system is a straight up random. Statistically speaking, you will get your share over time. In my case, I had a string of extremely terrible luck for the first 8-12 months I played on this server ... lost a lot of rolls on gear of variable value. Over time, it averages out. Outside of those who RMT (and the vast majority of them will be and/or have been busted), most of the people who have a ton of plat or resources have simply played longer/harder than the rest.

That Tstaff is the most valuable thing I've won in 18 months playing on this server ... whatever funds I have now are the sum total of time spent accumulating 300-500pp vendor kunark armors, making potions on my shaman (100s made and sold painfully in EC), farming seafuries (ugh ... with a passion ... ugh), or velious gems I happened across in random xp groups or soloing the upper 50s to ding 60 on my bard.

When you join a group, expect ALL high dollar items to be greed rolled. Lower to medium value? Group may pass to someone who could use as an upgrade. Gems? Generally greed roll or alpha (if the camp drops gems frequently). Spells? Depends on the value, but for the big ones you can expect a greed roll even if someone needs (ie torpor drops, everyone gets a roll even if a shaman in the pickup group needs it).

To some extent OP is right, but he is not taking into consideration that we are at end game. There will be no Luclin, no PoP, we are at the end of the line. The NBG concept kinda goes out the window when there is no progression. Generating PP to deal with the EC fat cats becomes its own progression. Gems for 10k, Dragon drop-able loot 200k+, Epic MQ for 20k-500k. Sh!t gets real expensive for every class and T-Staff is a novelty item. If it was a top DPS weapon it would be one thing, but its not, its a twink item worth $$$.

I haven't either, but apparently it's happened to him multiple times. I'm no saint in that zone, because I've sniped abandoned pawbusters in front of needy monks before. But for your own group to pull greed on you for an epic piece is just wrong.

Iv always followed nbg system even back on live it worked well no idea why people have a problem doing it on here guess it's the Ole mighty platinum whispering in your ear. I tend to roll for it if everyone's rolling if it's an upgrade and I win I normally pass it to the person who could use it I feel better knowing it's being used for a good purpose rather then money hungry people hell iv had items returned to me when they found an even better upgrade. So sometimes it works in your favor. Sucks these kind of things happen but what can you do?

30k to most people isn't going to be 30k padding their already multiple 100s of thousands bank roll. A 30k drop in a pickup group, for most people, equates to a serious set of buyable upgrades for their characters.

The one monk in a group of 6 people has his 1:6 chance to win it. If he/she won, they've got the choice to keep the overpriced piece of gear or sell it for 30k and buy better dps weapons, a better haste item, or several minor upgrades and a set of blue diamond resist gear.

Everybody rolls.
Everybody has a chance to win.
Doesn't get more fair than that.

99.9% of these threads are generated by someone who felt they needed to be gifted a really expensive item that was a viable means for upgrades for the other 5 people in their group.

OP would probably be surprised to find out that a lot of people on this server are awesome and are totally willing to cut you a sweetheart deal on the item they just won, as long as you aren't a dick about things

Theres nothing I hate more than the attitude of a casual who wins a cloak of flames or something before their first toon is even level 60.
