I'd guess he had pneumonia and drank too many beers and it lowered his oxygen saturation which was already crippled by pneumonia. The fact you don't know the cause says he suffocated in his sleep likely by some kind of drugs I would guess. If it was meningitis wouldn't he have realized he was very sore in the neck and muscles and sought some medical attention instead of doing nothing?

If he drank beers drugs would be involved, and I know he drank beers. Samwise has a point and beers would aggravate a heart problem too.

This is how one of my best friends died in high school. He started feeling sick and then a few days later was dead. Shit is crazy and hard to understand.
