This is true, but really, there are really no melee classes that won't ever be expected to pull, solo or not solo. I've been in groups with rogue pullers; sneak pulling is pretty strong. (Don't roll SK; people will want you to pull in a lot of cases because of FD.)

If you don't ever want to pull, I think wizard or magician is your best bet: you don't have FD, pacify, harmony, sneak, or any other pull tools aside from a long range spell. Cleric might be OK too since people don't normally want to risk the cleric. But as a melee, good luck avoiding pulling forever without irritating your group mates.

All that having been said, pulling makes EQ interesting, why avoid it? =P

Just bring a bag of clickies, a robe and equip a couple of books whenever they ask you to pull and say you're not really a monk, but a wizard.

True, but that's kinda like a cleric joining a group and saying "I'm a battle wzard, I don't heal". But ya, I seem to run across a monks like this every now and then.

If the OP wants to melee, but doesn't want to pull, but wants to be able to solo, but definitely wants to group, then he should really roll a mage. No melee fit that bill.

being the grp puller is one of the more satisfying things you can do in eq. except when the pull site is over camped (hello KC)

im loving paladin and it quite fits the bill here. kinda tricky until you can root, but after that its like having an enchanter in your pocket, and you heal almost as well as a druid(no regen)

Aren't paladins terrible soloers though?

I can't speak for all paladins, but playing from 1-35 so far soloing on my new paladin (fairly twinked) I've had no problems, even soloing yellows. Self buffs, roots, heals, and lull are all amazing for soloing. If I get a breeze or clarity I can kill non-stop blues and whites without ever having to sit down.

With the new high dmg/dly ratio 2h's coming out with Velious and dropping in price it's only going to get better.

Sure there are better solo classes, but paladin isn't terrible at all, especially compared to rogues and warriors.

Best melee soloer who doesn't pull is whatever class you want to play and have fun with. If you're a monk and don't want to pull just be up front with your group before you join. Monks are still pretty solid DPS. I'll always pull in place of someone else (even if it's not the most efficient) if they're not feeling up to it.

Better once you get to 15 because you get a bit of crowd control and your first DD undead spell.

22's even better when you can start rooting.
