Or let's talk about Darwin for a second because he and Tesla are such great examples of highly intelligent men overcoming their indoctrination while on a quest for the truth.

After seminary, Darwin left on a crusade of sorts to discover the center of creation. What he found instead destroyed his faith. His relationship with the church was never the same.

It's such a good thing that the church has lost its stranglehold over most modern governments.
