You missed a gap where Max lost the plot and disbanded <Fresh> so that it would be forced to reform as <Thunderdome>.

Rather than continuous bleed members into <Empire> some of the officers thought they would take a stand against tyranny and form an alliance with the rest of the server under <Good Guys>. Max started to sperg out on the forums and went pro-<Empire> because a couple of his enemies were in the alliance (even though there are more ex-<Azrael> currently tagged <Empire> - insanity does that).

Loved the old Max, but no idea where he's gone. This new guy is just so bitter and very much pro-<Empire>.
