Obviously it should be used to throw people into the secret Mistmoore tower and down into the hidden underground lake where three-way battle occurs between Mayong, Kraken and Megladon.

I was thinking it could be used to weaponize gnomes when combined with iron scroll of war, earring of displacement, oil of fennin ro, etc.

So how long does the gnasher quest stay up? Does it just disappear then? Or just one component stops dropping?

The planks stopped appearing as ground spawns at some point. The rest of the quest stayed intact, so as long as you grab a plank you'll get one eventually. Odds are it'll be MQable too so I'm sure people will be selling horded planks for years to come.
