I had no ring on red until level 57. Taper enchantment works well in most scenarios barring caster mobs or mobs parked near caster mobs (your charm will be below some junk buff the have in themselves).

Invis works great too but it does take a sec to cast and of course you have to constantly reload spells (which you probably do anyways).

Basically, I've lost a non-zero amount of xp to not having a ring but it's nowhere near 8k worth. You can easily make the other methods work, you just need to practice.

I used invis to charm solo on my enchanter up to around high thirties, maybe 40. Had some spare plat so I got him a goblin ghaz ring. Absolutely worth it! The insta click makes it convenient to leave pet up with <5% hp, so I can shave it off with a tiny nuke [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

All these ppl saying ring is not a must have item have obviously never had one. It might not be 100% necessary but is absolutely worth the 6k and then some... On demand charm cancel is no small thing.

On demand charm breaking was really only half the value of what ring used to have. Being able to cast immediately after a charm break was pretty fancy until they added Gcd via clicky to both servers. Now it just saves a minute amount of experience for the times you goof or taper doesn't pull it off.

If all I had in my bank was 6k to gear out an enchanter id buy spells, glamour rod and basic gear every time over getting a ring.

Not worth it IMO

What I do is have the target rooted then back the pet off and hit guard. Then the 5 seconds it takes to invis is not a big deal and i have never lost XP from it unless my target or pet was poisoned or dotted and i cut it too close.

Maybe someday with i have 6k lying around I'll buy the ring or I'll try and farm it if it isn't camped but since I'm at like 600pp i doubt that will happen soon.

Umm, well obviously you are going to buy spells first and obviously you need some basic gear to get CHA high enough to make charm killing viable.. how does that some how make the ring not worth it? It is absolutely worth it. Try playing an enchanter with one and then without one.. it is immensely easier and more efficient with the ring. I've leveled an enchanter up both ways. Sure if I ONLY had 6k to my name and a naked enchanter I would buy other things first, but that doesn't mean the ring isn't worth every penny of 6,000 plat.

Lend me 6k pp or your ring and I'll happily test out your hypothesis on my enchanter... [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

So I was in LOIO yesterday getting to 29. I see this high level rogue by the goblin ruins killing everything in sight; I asked him if he was camping courier, yes he was. he said he was 0 for 46 with the courier ... he spawned it and killed it 46 times in a row and no ring. He was still there two hours later when i left. of course, the RNG can be fickle and that might not be representative, but it's a 6k item for a reason and it's not because it's hard to kill a level 14 mob.
