I hesitate to bother responding, I've literally gotten a "well fuck you then" for turning someone's lowball offer down.

Smalls just out of morbid curiosity, did you try haggling down Platlord or did you take his prices like a bitch.

The only reason I don't do this is because people get rude sometimes, even when I try my best to be polite... "Gotcha, ty anyway", "No, gl"...

I didn't read any of this thread so I'm sure to contribute right now.

I am a jeweler. I sell my jewelry every time i'm logged into my toon in EC.

When someone asks me for price on something, I have never varied in the 2+ years I've played here, or hell, even when I was on Fippy.

I do NOT haggle on my jewelry prices. If I tell you something (55hp/5ac rings) cost 250pp, if you counter-offer me, I'm not going to reply. Why?

Because I used to reply. I used to reply to every single one of you mongoloids telling you why it's not worth it for me to sell it to you for 175pp. Fire opals cost 550 gold from Genni in sol-ro temple. That's 55pp, but it's more than 55pp in trouble to go get, especially considering I have to use a ton of my time. I literally buy 200 when I go because it's going to take me 2+ hours to get that many fire opals.

Not to mention, even at 55pp, the bar is ~101pp, and my failure rate (at which I spent 10k+ to get to.., plus the time) is 5%. If you want to know precisely, my raw 'cost' per ring is 165.26pp - that's not including my time to go get the non-vendor bought FO, the cost of the port to get them (which you say oh, but you get 200 - yes, which means I have 200 x 55 = 11k in assets tied up in fire opals, which is also a cost).

So you can see why I don't type it all out, or even bother. The fact that I buy 200 at a time tells you the kind of thorough-put I get on them, at the standard price of 250pp. If you don't want to pay my price that I say, just don't say anything back. I'm not ripping you off, and I understand the idea of a secondary market in a game where items never go 'no drop'. If you want to wait and find somebody that is selling their old twink gear, be my guest.

I hear you, but what happens when your co-jeweler friends try to sell their PFWRings for 275pp or 300pp each? Are we are expected to just fuck off because if that is your position you need to take a step back from this game. Or do we offer them 250pp which I agree is absolutely a reasonable price? You must admit that there are two sides to this and many sellers are just as delusional as are many prospective buyers.

Many of you are taking offense because you have met some dipshit people who do nothing but send lowball tells to people for way below a fair price. Other dipships buy items at a fair price and try to flip them for some bullshit markup.

I am here to discuss those fucknuts, not you and others who do as you do.

To this I say - I have been selling the JC items at the exact same price point for several years. If you are paying 275pp, 300pp, it is because you are not aware of the market. Consumers keep the market in check.

For what it's worth, I don't think 275pp or 300pp is 'out of the ballpark' for what the rings actually do for a character and their cost of acquisition.

Platinum Ruby Veils (7 str /wis) sell for 350pp alllll day long and cost me 252pp on average and I make 98pp in profit. Platinum sapphire necks (7 str / int) cost me 219pp to make and I sell them for 300pp to make a 81pp profit.

PFWR cost me 162pp and I sell them for 250pp, making me 88pp in profit. It's also way more hassle to get you a 55hp/5ac ring considering PRV/PSN are completely storebought.

I wish common sense ruled the market, but alas it does not.

Keke, we've discussed this issue a number of times in game. While this will resolve nothing, I feel inclined to point out your revulsion towards the opportunistic nature of the free market. I think you would be happier being able to sell your wares to a vendor at a set price to avoid the hassle of setting up shop. This is a personal preference, and understandable.

However, that is not the way the game is designed. As pointed out, no item has a set value. It fluctuates, based on expansions, current population, how often people farm the item.

Being a shitsucking, broke warrior for most of my time on the server, I spent plenty of days in EQ trying to lowball people for an item and resell it higher. Why? It's fun for some of us! It's a challenge. Also, you can make money*.

At my current point, I am more like you in that I desire to gtfo EC faster, because I can make more money getting back into a camp than I can spending an hour waiting for a deal that gives me an extra 500pp. Nevertheless, if I'm in EC, and I see someone selling an item at, say 70% of what I value it, I will DEFINITELY try to buy it from them, and you know what, I will try to buy it for less. This is opportunism. Maybe that person is like you and will get pissy because in their head, they are broadcasting to the world "LOOK THIS IS THE PRICE I REALLY WANT TO SELL IT FOR."

Which is reasonable. But it's not a fixed market economy, so it presents people with a deal, which, with a simple question, could turn into a better deal! Some of us are willing to gamble with the investment, whereas people like you wanna get in, get fucked, and get out. We want to stay in the orgy.

I love the auction/haggling system. A lot of the time pieces of shit will lowball me. I can't hate too hard, I tried it for a while.

So here's a thought. If you are trying to sell, for instance, GEBs at 4.5k when you know 5k is a very common asking price, and want to cut out the haggling session (let me remind you here - a lot of people enjoy haggling - it is a far from obsolete concept), then put it up like this: WTS GEBs 4.5k FIRM - NOT GOING LOWER!! Or, to avoid EC altogether, post it to the EC tunnel forum.

Anyway

people should respond
people should be more open to the idea of haggling and not respond like an angsty 13 y.o. girl who just found out her best friend barbara sucked her boyfriend's pee-pee for an icecream cone under the campus bleachers
if you are talking to a crafter, it's safe to assume their wares are a safe price
everyone chilll the fuck out
come rub me nips

I usually sell shit lower than normal, and I'll usually buy something even if I know it's more expensive than usual, simply because I just want to sell/buy and gtfo out of EC.

I'm the worst kind of person.
