![]() Hi Gawain - what CPU do you have in your iMac, and when you pull up activity monitor, what's your CPU utilization look like?
Here's results from before: Launch = good. Login = good. Server Select = good. Character Select = good. Initial Zone load = good, but CPU usage starts going crazy, 24-70% on all cores of the i7 Secondary Zone load = lengthy, wifi on computer crashes - if using ethernet, CPU usage continues to escalate. Fans kick in like a jet landing - I chicken out and /quit. If I attempt to zone a 3rd time, black screen crash. Things I've tried: I: Bootcamp+Win7U - no change. Bootcamp+Win7U+run as admin - no change. Bootcamp+Win7U+shortcut with start/affinity/low - no change. Bootcamp+Win7U+moved out of Program Files and to Users/ - no change. II: WinEQ2 Lite + I - no change. III: VM Fusion + I - no change. VM Fusion + II - no change. IV: VM Fusion constrained to 1 CPU - no change (all cores tach out in underlying OSX). VM Fusion constrained to 1 CPU + I - same as above. VM Fusion constrained to 1 CPU + II - same as above. V: DX9c - no change. DX9c + I-IV - no change, no change, no change, no change.

![]() Tork, I know with Afinity and also with bootcomp+VMware you can set how many cores to use and such but have you tried using bootcamp and a 32bit version of Win XP?
I have the 2.43ghz Macbook Pro CoreDuo. I installed bootcamp with 15GB partition and put a "Lite" version of XP on it. I used the Mac OSX disk for all of the dirvers I needed. Installed EQ Ti client and followed setup intructions and it works great. I dont have to set afinity or my core usage in bootcamp utilies.

![]() I play on a bootcamp partition running Windows 7 x64 and haven't noticed any problems. Just bought my Macbook pro a couple of weeks ago, so it's pretty new. Hope that helps!

![]() It's not really that complicated of a procedure, but I'll lay it out as best I can.
First, you need to install Windows onto your Mac. In case you don't already know how to do that, a quick Google search should net you a bunch of results. Since it's free, I think that most people end up just going with a bootcamp installation. There are a ton of guides you can use, below is the one I followed. http://www.simplehelp.net/2009/01/15...e-walkthrough/ After you have your installation of Windows up and running, follow the installation directions given on the project 1999's setup guide word for word. Link for that is below. http://www.project1999.org/forums/showthread.php?t=2651 After that is completed the game should run fine. Most likely though you may notice issues with your character or other game elements running slow. This is most likely due to the game client freaking out about your modern multi-core processor. I ended up having to follow tips from the below thread to get that issue cleared up: http://www.project1999.org/forums/showthread.php?t=3609

![]() I've got it to a playable state now with one hiccup: the mouselook is super sensative/super choppy.
Anyhow, here's what I did: VM Fusion3+XPSP3 - I played with a ton of different combinations using CPUPalette.app and F3's CPU/RAM settings - ironically, setting the VM to 4 CPUs and leaving on all 4 cores yielded a very playable game FPS capped at 50, but it was just soaking up too many resources. If I drop FPS down to 10, my CPU usage goes to almost nothing - so I compromised with 24 FPS, and with the exception of the mouselook, it's ok. I also turned off all the pixel shaders, advanced lighting and shadows. I personally can't tell much of a difference with the shaders, so no big loss and I never liked advanced lighting, so that's no loss either - but after all these years of wanting a powerhouse computer to run shadows flawlesslessly, I finally have one - and it still can't do shadows. =P I nuked my bootcamp sector, I might redo that at some later date and see if I can get things going smoother - EQ, as I recall, was never very CPU constrained, but rather GPU constrainted, and so that's why it's equal parts baffeling and frustrating I can't get it to 'just work.'

![]() Fixed mouse look (with VM Fusion 3):
Open up VM Fusion, then go to VM Fusion-Preferences...->General Under Gaming: dropdown, select "Always optimize mouse for games."
