Return of Rubicite

Anyone remember the event which allowed Rubicite to drop in Najena temporarily?

It went on for about a week if I remember right, and the zone was swamped.

I think the BP was nerfed a little but all the pieces dropped after they were initially removed the first time for a small window. I remember getting a few pieces during this time. I think this was prior to Velious.

August 14, 2000: Multiple people have reported to me and on other eq sites that Najena has been changed (called Najena_alt1) on some servers (but not apparantly every server) and has new mobs which are dropping rubicite armor and enchanted fine steel weapons (same damage/delay as fine steel, but with stat adjustments). The drops seem to be random off every Mob in Najena. It has also already switched back to the old version on some, if not all of the servers. It is still not clear it this is a limited GM event, or a permanant change to the zone. There was a post by Brad McQuaid a while back that mentioned that they were looking into redoing Najena to make it a more useful dungeon, so it is possible that this will become permanant, but right now your guess on this is as good as mine. I have also heard that the zone is a madhouse on the servers where the change took place. Check it out at your own risk.

After they were removed, there were many events where the GMs gave them away as prizes (in Najena, EverFrost, the Karanas, etc.).

Then later, you could win them at the casino.

Interesting, didn't know it was only on some servers.

Did / will p99 ever do anything like this? or are the days of shiny red plate dropping in the past?
