Do you want to have the power to take time in your life to do the things you love? Lune will show you how.

1. Don't Have Kids - There are about 7 billion human beings on Earth. I think the human race will work out just fine without yours.

2. Stay Away From Women - Women are designed to keep you away from the things you truly love. At first they will support your interests, perhaps even share them-- but that is simply a maneuver designed to lower your defenses. They will burrow into your chest cavity, scrape out your heart and lungs, and lay their eggs in there. Then she will move on to find a new host and you will be left paying child support/vomiting blood.

3. Grow a Beard - A regal mane will not only help protect you from female predation, but it also serves as a useful adaptation to life in a dark basement. Can't see in the dark? Use your beard to feel around for energy drinks. Can't find food? Go stand next to a drive-thru and someone will usually buy you something off the value menu.

4. Quit Your Job - I know what you're thinking; every parent wants to see their child go out and make their own way in the world, right? Wrong. Your parents love you, and they want nothing more than to have you back in the house under their loving care. They will provide a comfortable basement lair in which you can properly pursue your love of online gaming.

5. Apply to TMO - This is the final destination of your journey. You've forsaken reproduction, shunned women, grown a magnificent beard, and dedicated your life to emulated classic everquest. Only the most dedicated have what it takes to dominate server content, and your dedication is clearly visible to all. Platinum and treasures will fill your bank as pizza boxes, soft drink cans, and ant colonies amass around you. Watch as an ecosystem forms in your basement, as ants, spiders, and mice vie for control of resources, while you compete for control of raid targets. This is what classic everquest is about. Congratulations, adventurer, for you have liberated your life.

Non-neckbeards, you have no power here.

Oh please. Me and the wife raised a demonspawn brat while playing EQ almost as much as we worked. It can be done. They more-or-less raise themselves once you teach them to feed themselves.

And Lune, I love your bit -- but have you got a twist for the female extreme gamers among us? Making me laugh once is not sufficient. After someone has made me laugh, they have a standard to maintain.

Serious question. What RL obligations or lack thereof do you have that gives you the allotted time to play video games?

Are you a student? Millionaire with no bills? Self employed? Work from home? Permanently disabled?

I'm pretty sure a good portion of the player base has a job and/or kids, but for everyone else what is it? So curious to know.
havent you heard? this community is packed with millionaires, doctors, lawyers, and partridges in a pear tree

I work 7:30 to 4:30 M-F where I spend my hour lunch at the gym.(Id laptop in for some soloing if I had a bit more privacy during work hours, Forumquest suffices)

So 4:45ish to about 11 is generally EQ or I work in some other games like LoL, with breaks to do dishes/cook dinner. Let my dog out. Weekends are a grab bag, it's winter so fuck being out in the cold, but come late Spring, Summer and Early fall I spend one day a weekend hiking all day. Until then, I play for 12+ hours on the weekend if my GF and I are doing nothing.

She plays MMOs like a single player game or watches TV and lets me do my thing. Kids are never in the picture, fuck that hassle.

There isn't much that is more pathetic than coming into an MMO forum and slamming people for 'having no lives and playing the game too much'.

Sounds more like OP has genuine curiosity about other people's lifestyles than wanting to bash them.

I say if you love EQ, and your life permits you to play it that much, then more power to you.

Exactly. I know I play a lot...but I'm a pretty simple person in what I enjoy.

When it's nice out, I sit on my deck with a glass of whiskey and a cigar. Grill dinner, go out to the local pub for drinks. As mentioned previously, hike. If none of that is happening I'm SURE as fuck going to relax after work/weekends with some EQ. I've never canceled plans to play nor said no to plans.

Back during late EQ/Early WoW - I always justified large amounts of time in MMOs because I wasnt out getting drunk every night, spending money on stupid shit. I was getting massive entertainment value and made some friends I still talk to, to this day.
