THERE IS NOTHING CASUAL ABOUT EQ.

Period.

Get.

Over.

It.

Precisely. This is not a game for slackers.

When you get right down to it, "casual" means wanting all of the rewards -- but without doing all of the work.

I disagree.

Casual means not caring about all of the rewards, and doing the work THEY want to do, not what their guild leaders want them to do.

So many try to rationalize their own behavior by saying that "everyone" is doing it. Everyone isn't doing it. If you're doing something skeevy, it's because your being a skeeve (dunno if that's a word but it sounds right).

Casual players do not usually want all the rewards with no effort. Most of the casuals I've met are just better at being satisfied with taking in the moment instead of pushing for some imagined post-50 (or whatever the level cap is) goal.

"Nice" people do not turn into douches when they get to high level. If you're a douche at 50, it's not because you have to be or because things change. It's because you're a douche. I played classic at the high end. My entire guild was filled with cool people. I don't remember us ever getting into a flame war. We never stole a camp or got into a shouting match or did any of those things that seem to be a problem here. However... we were not interested in competing to "get there first". We mostly just wanted to play with friends, have a good time and enjoy the game. We did. Of course, we had a few people leave us after a time so they could go to hardcore raid guilds and we had our share of (usually short-term) members who were focused on loot but, generally, we were just happy to do some raiding and grinding together.

As for P99, unfortunately I've seen more bastards than heroes so far. The heroes give me hope that there is still fun to be had though. The biggest problem I see so far is the lack of interest in grouping. I think that's mostly because of my class. I think I might start again as a tank to see if that generates more interest. I group with my regular partner usually but it would be nice to meet more people and I'm thinking the people that group (even when not raiding) might be a different crowd than the hoards of solos out in the Karanas. Maybe one day, we'll even find a guild worth joining.

*looks surprised* not to discount anyone's feelings or bad experiences, hey I've had them too! But life is what you make of it. So is this game. If you focus on griefing or greed or training or the campers or the high end guilds or whatever pisses you off and just keep THAT in your sights then yeah this server sucks. But so will any other server on any other game you play.

Find your own joy. Don't let a negative experience ruin what makes you happy and the reason you logged on. If all you look for is the bad, well then that is all you will see.

Nothing is "owed" to you for your good deeds. Also if something "bad" happens afterwards it's not reverse karma?

Bubbles, Noleaf and Flicka all make good points but I think you're all missing the intention of the original post; others should no spoil the fun of others. There's no point stealing spawns for low level loot (probably intended for twinks or powerleveling). There's no need for lowering ourselves to a shouting raving mob of lunes. We can all play Everquest the way we want without ruining it for others.

Perhaps I shouldn't be posting this, but I know I for one would love to see a bit more civility on these forums. A maybe a more iron first to resolve anti-social behaviour. That said, I've met some real nice people, so we aren't all bad apples.

Default Playing the game.. for the sake of playing a game

Like I said in my post, the people in our guild are casual players. We are not and never will be raiders, in the search of status.

We have been playing eq as a group, for 10 years off and on, frequently restarting character sets.

Its the game play we like. Having a sold group or two, capable of crawling dungeons beyond our lvl, fighting all reds, enjoying the dungeon crawl for what it is. A game.

I play, more than the others in our guild. So instead of leveling past my friends, I created alts, and kept my 'main' guild group character in group able range, so we can enjoy our nightly hunts in dungeons.

We are casual players, who did seek out the classic experience. The additional challenge of hunting without defiant gear, or cushy exp bonuses.

If you people want to see the populations of this server, continue to grow, you have to consider what it takes to build a community. Otherwise you will end up with a guild of 30 (and 200 boxed alt accounts) in a circle jerk, patting each other on the backs for being king of the world. The world consisting of only themselves.

Well said.

^^ what he said.

And actually, one of my toons was grouped with Stalin last night, at Derv3 in NRo. Was a fine group and everyone pulled their own weight.

And you missed seeing me and Japan ending up as a team and pulling red con deepwater crocs in Oasis later that night. Aggro kiting FTW. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
