Yeah, he pulled a career 180. From corny rom-com "actor" to award worthy renaissance man.

Check him out in Mud, Killer Joe, and obviously Dallas Buyer's Club.
I loved him in Mud!

I just found out that season 1 is only gonna have 8 episodes. So next week is the season finale according to the trailor. Why do these HBO bastards make fewer and fewer episodes every season? It's irritating because as usual fans will have to wait a full year for new episodes.

Bring back 12-episode seasons! And goddamn them for sucking me in and leaving me hanging. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Half agreed. I think three of the first six episodes felt like they unraveled very slowly, and then the pace picked up at the end of episode five and really started to build some suspense.

McConaughey's role is exactly what I expected. (If you haven't watched stop reading, even though this isn't really a spoiler) - The "detective" portion feels like his better roles, and the more current portion feels, to me, like a rehash of what we see from him in everything else. Harrelson starts off slowly, but that is purely character design, and I felt like he did an above average/pretty good job in his role.

As for the non-acting stuff? All of it is really good and accomplishes exactly what it sets out to do - even on a per-episode basis, letting the plot unfold without fear of losing viewers due to having some weeks where not much happens. Somehow I applaud that and dislike it at the same time.

At least it's better than True Blood! With the possible exception of TB's first season, before it got too ridiculously overexaggerated, campy, and overcrowded with characters.

And when the episode goes off my 60 inch gets a big bird shot at it with the words "fuck you" behind it

Naez and I started this today. We've watched two episodes so far. VERY good, liking it a lot.
