![]() Nvm... than, I was just thinking, my bro has rack space. Just a thought.
It's sad abacab put up his server and started handing out level 60's items away, cause he seems to have a nack for it. I know a lot of us said, fuck it, make something custom to tool around with. But I have a feeling that if someone really did stop at the planes, kept the legacy loot/quests. And classic feel it would be a popular box eventually.

![]() Probably the biggest hindrance to starting a new classic box is the lack of cheat detection. You can throw enough semi-capable people at the content and get it right, and even a mediocre developer could probably fix most of the source, but something like modifying an existing DLL to do a bunch of sketchy shit to catch cheaters is beyond the capability of nearly all geeks.

Really the hardest part is having someone who knows how to the dll, and keep up with the latest macroquest builds to look for memory usage patterns. Though a punkbuster style solution might work, could punkbuster be adapted to use with EQ? Is that code FOSS even out there?

![]() AFAIK i know though pretty classic database is leaked for the first year of the game. So if not going into kunark/velious, not that much database work.

![]() Non-database stuff like the scripts for raster/Solro AC are the biggest issue, but those items don't need to be perfect either. Especially if Nejana is the camp spot.
Other faction issues: stuff like paineel shoudn't be in.

![]() Yeah I dunno, I figured out how to script quests and made all the VP dragon scripts classic in less than an hour from knowing nothing. I think stuff like Raster and AC is more tedious than actually difficult, and it's really not that much work.
Research has generally always been the hold-up here it seems. If you can tell a developer exactly how something is supposed to work, anyone worth a damn can make it happen. I couldn't even imagine having to research/implement factions and stuff like that, though.
