Boxing keeps people like Trophy, who has been lfg for three days without anyone responding to him. It would be great for the server, and as someone who played on vz/tz I can attest that fighting two boxed toons when you are on one can sometimes make it easier because they will flounder very hard on whatever toon they don't consider to be dominate.
Either way Samwise is like the worst person to listen to about anything. Here's thread one about boxing and he is threatening to quit the server that isn't made. I can't believe people like him are being listened to about what is going to be good for the server and I hope it is just a fluke that he is championing this teams server nonsense.

You know what else happened ? 10-15 people could contest the big guilds. There was no long lasting zerg guild on vz/tz because people didn't have to be so desperate for players that they would have to stay guilded with people they didn't enjoy playing with. The PVP on that box was so much more prevalent than this one because of the two boxing dynamic.

to be fair i wouldnt play p99 blue or red if boxing was enabled either. on sz you could only make your toon on one team. nothing will stop people from boxing an alt to the other team to find people/dispel/train) the potential for grief outweight the convenience of having your own port bot. i mean there are no IP bans so there is no harm in training your own team anyway, this will just make it worse. id be more more in favor of activating the combines than enabling boxing. i think boxing will hurt grouping as much as it will benefit for those not wanting to box, GL getting into groups. its already hard to get into the various cliques on the server, will be even harder when they need noone but their box. see brainz for example, boxing helped himself and only himself.

maybe if you could restrict an IP to one team but i dont see how. also the people arguing that it allows a smaller group to contest a larger one, how does this make sense if the opposition can box too. nilly players are generally more serious about this game. if you dont think itll be damn near mandatory they box, you gotta be kidding yourselves. might as well multiply nilly by 2.
unless by contest you mean raiding a mob then ya i can see that.

Played vztz. I boxed. Pretty sure everyone did. I did it mostly to load up my wizard to port my group around instead of waiting on the +/- 100 pop to possibly port us around. It was also great self buffing and being able to level up multiple toons. It was also a huge hassle anytime someone found me two boxing and having to pvp with both toons while the person I was fighting could concentrate on just the one. I could go either way on boxing really.
But honestly I doubt the higher powers that be will give us boxing, because it kills most of the 'community' that comes along with forced grouping and socialization etc. My 2cp

all im asking is for an even playing field without subjecting everyone to "forced" boxing to compete. in fact i hope they go hardcore SZ ruleset. one char per IP on one team. even more + is tie that one toon to their forum account. no more spies, no more BS. everyone accountable. i know thats unrealistic and probably far from popular but thought id throw that out there since people are suggesting boxing.
boxing was classic but at the expense of precious bandwidth (til broadband was everywhere) and at the cost of a 2nd account beig payed for plus the purchase of the game and its expansions. not til late velious did i really see boxing become popular, even then it wasnt as bad as it would probably be here. maybe i was just never exposed to it but it was seldom i was aware of someone boxing until luclin +.

Instead of looking for a group of 3-4 to be viable you can be a viable group with just one other person. If you have 3-4 real people you can drop the boxing or just have 1-2 people boxing clerics and play the class you want. People will always choose a real person over a second box. To the discussion about big guilds being 2x as big, it really would be a cluster to have 20 people x 2 running around pvping. The competition comes into play when you can have a 12 person guild be able to have the numbers to do a decent raid. It is fun being in a guild of your choosing with a group of players that have the same mind set as you. Boxing does help this. If you want to be in a roleplaying guild like rule of rile you can and still be viable. To those saying boxing will hurt them because of 2v1 pvp scenarios, it is just as easy to get away from someone boxing than 1 v 1. Also, if you are attacking someone that is boxing, you can normally target the one they aren't playing and sneak up on them before they even know they are being attacked. People boxing end up getting owned pretty easy when caught off guard. Imagine a melee with a support. The attacker can wait until the melee is occupied and focus on the support for a couple seconds before they even know what hits them. By that time the melee is 0 help because the support needs to be played just to stay alive. Switching back and forth at this point is not easy and ends up hurting the boxer. | |||
