No, I am not what most people would consider a "gun nut", but I do own many firearms (even some of the "scary" black ones!). I exercise my second amendment, just like you are exercising your first here. If you, and the other ignorant anti-gun folks, will relinquish your 1st amendment rights, I may consider relinquishing my 2nd.... but probably not.

You are correct, that "evolution" is called Amendments to the Constitution. The one that pertains to firearms is the second.

The long-running General Social Survey, maintained at the University of Chicago, has been asking about gun ownership since its inception in the 1970s.
