Default Logging in/staying in while zoning with high latency

Anyone got any arcane tips on how to avoid crash zoning during latent lag (800-1000 ms), or better: just to simply log back in?

I am using WinEQ free version already.

Basically I am sharing my internet with a bunch of facebook/youtube fools in a college dorm setting in a nearly third-world country and trying to play Project 1999. At about the same every day, latency shoots up, but heres the thing:

I can play just fine, so long as I remain in one zone and logged in (albeit compensate very carefully for lag), I can browse the net just fine. But I am locked in whatever zone I am in at the time else fatal permanent disconnect.

Any way to toggle off timeout on logging in/zoning or somethin to that extent? Or is this a technical issue plaguing those with high latency that exists even on live?

More details:
-I can function zone transitions fine at about 400-600 ms, or sometimes its about 30% chance of Dc, but can always get in to try again.
-It is not a reoccurring internet loss (problem I've had in the past), its a constant, relentlessly high latency.
-At 800-1000 ms, I can get to server select and see the emu list, but as soon as I try to join, it kicks me back to log in after a short 15 sec. Anyway to increase this?

TLDR version: is I fk'ed with high latency?

800ms is a very high latency to attempt to play at. Unless you can do something to improve your connection to P99's U.S. based servers (assumption), you are likely out of luck.

I've found a bizarre workaround that seems to help this kind of problem. Load a wiki page while you're zoning, preferably a somewhat complex one. I usually use one of the class pages. Reload the page as your zone is going on. The most important time to be reloading is just as the loading screen finishes. Reloading the forums doesn't have the same effect. I'm really curious to hear if this helps you.

funny you mention this. I actually developed a habit of loading webpages while I was zoning simply to ensure I was still connected to the net/gauge how fast browser sites load.

I never expected it to help zoning though.. I'll try using a heavy website.

Lol malicious thats wacky, i can't believe that works.

That being said, obviously your problem is the high latency. At that kind of delay, when you're trying to zone, the server basically says fuck this guy,, he's not even resopnding to our requests *drop*.

the only things I can think of doing to improve your ping (900 seems crazy high, but you did state the internet was likely shitty for a number of reasons) are to get off wifi if you're on it, buy a new wireless card (Ie, an N wireless), i also believe theres some minor tweaks you can perform in your network settings to get a little bit of a boost.

EDIT!

500th post! fire giant status!!

Unfortantly, a small portion of the playerbase is stuck playing with a high ping, regardless of their specific scenario which is causing the high ping.

The problem that these players are experiencing is this: They can play the game perfectly fine ... IF they make it into the zone...

The only problem they are having, is actually making it into the game.
Once in, its perfectly fine to play under the high ping.

I said it before and I'll say it again. The server needs to have better QA for players when zoning.

Right now, it seems like 1 dropped packet and the server will de-synch you while zoning. And that is why these players need to take extreme measers just to get INTO the zone. Because once they are in, the high ping is totally playable.

And no, no settings on their home network our router (even upgrading to a wireless N) is going to solve their external network latency issues.
