Default "Just lull it"

In browsing a lot of solo guides for clerics, enchanters, necros, etc., there is a recurring theme of the guide-writer telling people to deal with splitting up camps with harmony/lull/whatever.

Have these spells been changed recently?

When I was 50 on my necro before kunark, I was NEVER afraid to use my undead lulls in lguk at frenzy or lord when I was soloing down there... they resisted maybe 1/3 of the time but I rarely, RARELY pulled aggro with them.

But now, on my cleric over the last 20 levels or so? At least half of my lulls in that time have resisted, and probably half of those have pulled aggro.

I don't know the formula, but on my chanter I notice that LB's are easy to lull, as are lower dark blues. The closer the mob is to your level the more resists/critical resists you get, and it seems to be on an almost exponential scale. This is not particular to lull: root gives me the same issues.

Best bet is to make sure mobs are at least 4-5 levels below you.

Regarding if they were changed recently...I haven't noticed anything since uthgaards giant spell file revamp. Prior to that lull was practically irresistible, and for a little while I think they overdid the resist rate and it was almost unusable. But they seem to have gotten most of the kinks out by June and I haven't seen any real changes in reliability since then.

If your charisma is low and you get a resist you are most likely going to pull agro.

If you have a good level advantage on the mob and really high charisma, it's extremely reliable.

Of course that's in optimum situations. One thing I can say is not to make the same mistake I see made very regularly by others using the spell. If you're approaching a room full of mobs, pacify the WEAKER ones if at all possible, they'll be that much less likely to resist.

Regardless, charisma matters here alot when it comes to whether you pull agro on the resists or not. Unless the enchanter is much lower level, let the enchanter do it.

It is my understanding that charisma does not affect the initial success rate (i.e whether the mob is lulled or not), only the chance of agro on a resist.

I've heard this said by quite a few people in the past and my experiences in game line up with this.

Lull was nerfed to shit. I'm not sure when. They're much less reliable now on this server than they were on live though.

Harmony may be unresistable, but sometimes it doesn't work :P - Just saying.

This is true and the difference is massive.
I've drawn aggro lulling greens on naked CR's before, and I've gone hours without one lulling in exp camps with my cha over 230. You want your Charisma as high as you can push it, which is usually why the Enchanter should do lulling since they're the only class that typically walks around in cha gear.

Lulls work by reducing the aggro radius of a mob.Even on a successful lull, you can draw aggro if a mob paths through the lulled mob (and I mean directly through the mob's model). If the zone that you're in has bad pathing or mobs/pets tend to follow a particular pathing line then you may aggro lulled mobs on the pull. This is fairly common in deeper sections of Chardok and HS and extremely rare in outdoors areas.

It's my understanding that Harmony (and all other lulls) work by lowering the aggro radius of a mob by a certain amount.

So while Harmony will always land on a mob, it may still aggro if you get very close to it, or assist if they are very close to each other. This especially noticeable if two mobs are standing in the exact same location, or for mobs with gigantic natural aggro ranges (Plane of Fear mobs, Timorous Deep Raptors, etc)
