R99 Community

Simply put, what are your first impressions? It's been about two weeks now, and I'm wondering how it looks like in the long hall.

I was on blue today and it seemed like the community there was alive and well, (and, more importantly, fun to be around)

I've seen a lot of posts hating on red's lack of language skills/intelligence/empathy

and I'm wondering... is that true? Is red doomed to be some sort of monster of nerd rage or can I look forward to a fun server with an added dynamic of killing girlyman elves?

I am not a hardcore player and I have been fine during actual game play so far, but I have been avoiding players for the most part unless they are in my guild. If you need a group I would advise to get a guild with a healthy population.

As for nerd-raging, yes all the highest levels are nerd-ragers but you most likely won't have much contact with them for a couple months anyways. By that time there will be enough high levels to where they will be insignificant anyways.

Currently the nerd-ragers are all exploiting every bit of exp they can, ratting each other out, and posting meaningless screen shots with made up stories behind their pictures.

in all honesty, this is probably the most disgusting pile of scum suckers i have ever had the displeasure of witnessing on a forum, and that says something. it's better in game but not by a lot. sadly this server could have been a lot more, but that is impossible with the virulent bile that is currently spewing out of the r99 community.

The server is great in game. People are having fun and the server is working as it should for the most part. People question the community because of a handful of forum dumbasses - and you are right there in the thick of it. So like I said, if you (and your amigos) just shut the fuck up the general perception of the community would tend to be much better.

I can't believe anyone would defend the cedar wand abusers, or anyone else who is abusing exploits. but here you have it. the one thing most people want is a fair playing field, it's clear that a few miscreants spent their time in beta finding things they could exploit for their own personal gain rather than submit as bugs (actual purpose of a beta). that anyone would defend this kind of behavior or try to protect them from punishment is absolutely heinous.

Its actually a pretty trashy community. I suspect much drama when the first fights break out during raids...but thats why i am here for the giggles and the drama.

I've only ever played eq classic, never an emu server so I can only speak for my experience with servers '99-00 ish.

That said, I remember seeking players out being one of the most fun things about the game. Hanging out in the EC tunnel looking at everyone that was better than me. If red is a big cluster of people shying away from each other... I'm wondering if it'll be that fun.

It's like the part in harry potter where the death eaters have taken over the ministry of magic and diagon alley is all dark and shit, no one wants to buy magic shit anymore and everyone is running around in small groups hoping they dont get fucked by voldemort.

I can't connect with you on the Harry Potter reference but it is for sure a different game then a blue server. You form alliances and your reputation sticks. You have to trust people and look out for enemies. With such a big exp penalty being pked sucks. It is a lot harder but also a lot more rewarding. Also it is never boring, I often get bored on blue servers with nothing to really do.
