![]() Well, that's that.
My old buddy Jim pointed out the impending release of Fippy Darkpaw about a month ago. Intrigued, because he and I had both played EQ1 back in 2001, I started looking around and we figured we'd give Fippy a shot. I found Project 1999 while Googling for something related to Classic EQ. As I read about the plans for Progression and compared that to what I saw about P1999, I started to wonder.... I re-upped my Everquest account, re-downloaded the client and hopped on my level 61 gnome wizard to check things out. Not happy with the revamped Freeport area (one of my favorite places to hang at low levels) and the game on Live saw me many expansions behind. I realized pretty quickly that playing anything but Progression would be a waste of my time, as I'm fairly active with my guild in WoW and that's where I spend my raiding time. About a week before Fippy, I girded my loins (ewww) and got my stuff together. Within a few hours, I had rolled a gnome wizard here. So much better. Graphics and zones the way they are supposed to be. No stupid mechanics like OOC regen and layers and layers of new systems laid on top of old systems. (Tasks are in game, but tracked in quest journal, and there are other kinds of quests called something else and I think my head just popped) Progression launches. I roll a new Human Cleric. Jim rolls a mage. Because of real life and WoW stuff, the two of us never seem to be on Progression together. I sent him an email yesterday. Long and short....Progression not sucking me in. Not worth it. Yesterday, I spent time running around EC with my level 5 gnome wizard, actually having fun. I've bought a new dagger from him thanks to the tunnel auctions and I'm finding hanging out here relaxing, fun and reminding me of what I really liked about old time EQ....even though I got killed twice, lost XP twice and had to get me body back. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.] I have no idea how long I'll be here or how high I'll level. But I'm delighted to have found this place and to be living the EQ experience again, better than Sony can seem to deliver. Thank you!

![]() This server wins everytime for one simple reason:
Project99's team is dedicated to Free Classic EQ. Sony doesn't really care and just wants to make money.

However, that was always the case after the acquisition from Verant Interactive, even in the golden days.

I only got into p1999 because of hearing about Fippy. I hopped on there, but it was not close enough to classic to excite me. You spawn with your items after death. You can simply outrun monsters without SoW or anything. The group xp bonus is way too huge. No Hell levels. Focus effects. Overpowered pet classes and monks. Overpowered spells. There just wasn't any semblance of balance or fear in the world. I've been far more pleased with the population and people on p1999 compared to Fippy. I didn't re-subscribe after the free week and don't ever plan on it. P1999 is just what I was looking for!
