Default Are torches broken?

So I was playing EQ around SoL/PoP which is both not classic and a long time ago so my memory of it isn't perfect, but it seems to me like torches and fire eye beetles were a lot better back in the day. I'm getting very little lighting around me. Often none; it depends on the geometry.

Do you have advanced lightning on or off?

P99 is nowhere near as dark as classic, so that might be the effect you are seeing. What race are you running it on? On my WE ranger, firebeetle eye felt about right to what I remembered at least.

Advanced lighting on or off doesn't seem to make a difference. Here's an example:

You can see my front is illuminated, but none of the terrain is.

Sometimes I do get this:

Which is more what I expect. It seems to depend on where I'm standing, and unfortunately some zones don't work well at all.
