Default Hello all, yet another returning player here

Hi guys,

I found out about P99 last night, and tried (TRIED!) to resist, but here I am at work and I've already caved and decided to get a copy of Titanium as soon as I get home.

I have so many questions, I don't even know where to begin.

I guess my first question is about grouping. My old main was a cleric, and I remember by the time I got to Orc Hill, there was basically no way for me to solo, which taught me group dynamics really quickly. Is that the case in P99? I ask because I really hope it is [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Looking forward to meeting you guys in-game!

I never played a cleric at low levels (got one powerlevelled when the guild was short), but I can say this: it feels an awful lot like EQ did back in the day. Death hurts, corpse runs still suck, levels and equipment are hard to get (though passers-by are generous, as they were in the early days). There are plenty of groups to be had but plenty of competition for good spots. I'll be amazed if you don't love it, given your comments above.

Clerics usually do have a hard time soloing. But on the bright side, you'll barely ever have trouble finding a group.

Awesome! A couple hours the idea of doing another dwarf cleric was kinda 'meh,' but it's growing on me.

Any other classes that have an easier time finding groups?

Actually clerics solo very well, but they are fairly gear-dependent to do it. Really, say to solo your first 30 levels (at times when you want to - and sometimes it's faster exp solo) you would want at least a set of bronze armor and a few added str pcs. If you rolled a high elf, prolly not... [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.] their str and stamina is so low to start. I know people roll them due to the high wisdom, but in groups how often does FM happen? Not too often for any leveling group healer. It helps with solo, and this will start becoming important post ~30, but that is the point you can add wis items in and such.

But yeah, when you start going into places like Kurns or Unrest etc.. it gets easier. In fact you'll out dps about anyone in your group in those places, easily take down multiple blue cons in moments, even an even con (white) with little effort. Of course then, your mana is drained, and even better if you picked a race with hide... and even better yet, sneaksis. Sneaky little hobbitses!

Here, a little good starting info: http://wiki.project1999.com/Cleric
Oh and there is a solo cleric guide to look for on the wiki. Might give you a few ideas, there and back again... depending what you roll lol

I have only played my bard to 11 so far (rather slowly...), but people are happy to group in Blackburrow, where I have mostly been.

My take is that the gameplay is really just like 2000 but attitudes are different, partly based on preconceptions. What have a I noticed? Well-
1. Nobody likes swarm kiters. I never actually noticed this on live.
2. There are lots of shammies, chanters, monks and druids, because everyone knows how OP they were back then.
3. Very few pallies and SK's, maybe because they didn't stack up well against warriors then and are rarely useful in raids.
4. Rangers are still the butt of jokes. They were fun to play though, so I hope they still are.
5. Do mid-level groups really reject non-epic-twinked rogues? Min/maxing brats.
6. Wizzies don't get much group love, but scarcity makes them desired for raiding. Strange this, because I recall loving wizzies in groups in 2000. I imagine they are still torture to level.

Hopefully someone more expert will stop by and clarify.

PS Bards seem to get groups ok.

I know that I see Clerics soloing in spots like Unrest until mid/late 30's and then soloing Spectres. I don't know how well geared you need to be for this though, only just that i've seen it done.

The classes that are under-played on Blue (SK, Wiz, Pal, Ranger, etc.) are good to play on the pvp server.

Wizard could be fun - but poking around the forums, it looks like they have a tough time getting a group. Expect to see a new cleric running around Butcherblock in about four hours [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
