He had been holed up claiming he had a gun, was wanted for murder, and would go down by suicide by cop. Then when they released the dog he jerkily and hastily pulls his hand out toward the cops and threw the sandal. They didn't know it wasn't a gun.

After threatening to shoot at the cops for 12 straight minutes, the guy deserves a Darwin award for doing something so stupid.

The incident is unfortunate, but there is no excuse for the guy's standoff. The lesson should be - expect cops to shoot you if you tell them you have a gun, whether or not its a shoe, and especially if you're black
