In the past I'd sometimes log in just to help people when I was feeling alone at night. It was nice just to feel appreciated by someone who could have been half a globe away.

I am glad to see that people enjoy helping! I enjoy being helped, and enjoy helping. Helps make the server a more positive place and might keep more people playing rather than turning them away.
Every new caster likes to have a few PP for spells, or perhaps some buffs to get them through the 1-5 lvls real quick! I know we all enjoy the classic experience, but as I told the new players I was buffing/giving a few PP in Rivervale/Misty Thicket last night who told me "I want the classic experience, thanks for the offer though", is that me helping you IS the classic experience. I mean I didn't go bananas and give them 1000plat or some high dollar item, I just was giving them 10pp for spells/bags and such and throwing the low level druid buffs I had on them. (There were 3 separate instances of peolpe not wanting help, I found it interesting, but eventually they took the 5-10pp anyways, and when I buffed them, they didn't remove the buffs :P) People buffing people, people giving helping out new players with a peice of armor/weapon or two, maybe a some PP. That IS classic, people helping people. At least in my experience. When I first started playing EQ in 99/00, right after Kunark came out but a little before Velious, I was shown the ropes by a Dwarf, who gave me a Dwarven Ringmail tunic, fine steel weapon, made some leather armor for me, and gave me some PP. (Also showed me to Kaladim to turn in belts and such.) So..people helping people is classic! At least to me... lol | ||

Having 800k or so in items and a decent amount of plat lying around compels me to go out of my way and hook someone up about once a month. That or I will just spend time helping someone with a quest, mob kill, etc. Helping random people is just part of the game for me (sometimes). However, I generally like to /friend people after meeting them and giving them items. It sucks when you never see that name show up again on your friends list.
