One mistake I noticed is that the banish summoned icon is the same as storm strength... that doesn't seem right.

Also when I try to make anything other than hotkey bar #1 appear it doesn't do anything.
The icons attached to spells is down to the spells_us.txt file and should be reported in the bugs section. For hotbars 2 - 4 you need to set macro keys in the options window, or use the EQ button to open them.

So it seems a lot of people don't like the bigger rectangle icons, so I'm going to make a version with smaller square icons that should also work with the filigree and default_old ui's. More to report back later today...

If I am using a custom UI (I use SARS), do I need to update anything? I know a lot of people are asking if this is a required update. If I update will it affect anything in my custom UI?

The only thing you have to update is the gemiconXX and spellsXX tga files, or the spells_us.txt file will pick out the wrong gem icon. I put up a basic version of the square buttons here that you can use as a template for your UI. You could release your UI with this template set until such time as you re order you gem icons.

I was using the old velious UI from these forums, which all in all I actually like better than this. The main reason? It didn't have the shiny grey texture for buttons.

This is what the buttons looked like on live

This is what they look like here

Unfortunately this texture also affects the character select screen, so instead of the classic button texture for characters, everything looks borked. Is there a fix for this?
Any response to this? Does anyone else know what I'm talking about?

Alright, let's suppose I want to be able to just have the lastest spellfile but not change anything else.

This means, leave the icons looking the way they did, leaving the UI the way it was (1 row of 8 instead of 2 rows of 4) etc,

Is this possible to do? Or are we basically forced to change our spell icons and user interface? Personally I'm just not digging the was the changes look and I'm a huge proponent of "if it's isn't broken, don't fix it".
The spell gems needed to change, period. They were only tied to 30 options and looked terrible. Now you have 150ish gem #s. The spells_us.txt will be mandatory to see the correct gem alignment. Like I said in its announcement, this allows for more customization, so you can find/make whatever you want.

Simply put.. theres an icon number in spells_us.txt. Says gem should look like #. # in your gem icons is what it will look like.

Yep I know what you're talking about. Wasn't there an issue with the text displaying white instead of black? That's my only issue with the white hotbuttons, that makes for white on white. You should be able to use the .xml pieces of different UIs together, without having to do too much work. Maybe someone knows the specifics of what is needed.

OK so I went back today and completely redid the default UI for both versions (filigree and the default_old)

I don't know which version the devs will want as their default UI and I know some of you prefer one style over the other so I'll release both versions along with the corresponding ui changes.

1. Default. This is the version with the filigree and the blue style borders etc.

Complete UI download from fresh Titanium install: Zip Download

Change file to make the UI Project1999 compliant: Zip Download

2. Old default. This is the version with the older style grey mottled background.

Change file to make the UI Project1999 compliant: Zip Download

----------------

Whichever option you choose, I would suggest a fresh /uifiles/default do-over. IE whatever your current version of 'default' is change it to default_prejuly or something and then download the above files into a new 'default' folder. As you can see from above the UI's do work, and with the new style icons and spells_us.txt
Thanks this fixed the problem with hot bars 2,3,4 being gone, and they look right now.

Alright, I will give this another shot but the spell gem art looked mad blurry and the colors were like straight out of a neon colored crayons the last time I tried this. It was very rough on the eyes.

Hopefully I can get the single row of 10 hotkeys working, the 2 rows of 4 don't work very well with the way I set up my windows. (I am going to try the above post).

Honestly, I was quite used to the limited spell gems after 8+ months.
