Even scarier is the possibility of insolvency of Health Insurance Companies. Will they have the capacity to deal with the possible influx of tens-of-thousands of hospitalizations in just a months time?

Either we're gonna see insurance companies declaring bankruptcy or, more likely, they'll do what the banks did in 2008 - wait til they're already insolvent before they notify the the government causing another "too big to fail" situation where they're poised to request a "bailout" of some kind. Question then becomes whether the Fed has any money to actually bail them out.

People keep saying "there's only 1,000 cases in the US. It's no big deal" etc etc. They don't seem to understand that the 1) We're barely testing anyone in the US and 2) The outbreak is just starting here. China completely shutdown all of Hubei Province and STILL ended up with hundreds-of-thousands of REPORTED infected (who knows what the actual numbers are). Meanwhile the US has done literally NOTHING for the past month while in all likelihood the disease was spreading undetected all throughout the country.

This is a total fucking shitshow!

Almost like medicine and healthcare shouldn't be a for profit private industry in the first place or something.

I saw some east asian lady at the Co-op super market trying to self scan a huge trolley heaped full of toilet paper. A staff member went over to her and asked wtf she was doing and told her she couldn’t buy their entire stock of loo roll.

Looks like Trump probably has it.

Can we stop electing 80 year olds yet?

BONUS FACT: Despite the enormous cost of healthcare in the US hospitals are only required to have one nurse per THREE ICU beds!

In just about every other country it's a one nurse per bed policy - all while costing them a fraction of our expense!

Gee I wonder why that is?

Wife is the RN director of a extended-long term care center. Its 1 (one) RN and 2 assistants per 25 after 3pm? Or something like that ( rarely listened) and it's even more patients per nurse on the 11pm to 7am night shift.

And they all work multiple sites, along with temp staff RN's. When that virus starts hitting those centers they are fuuucked. It will be in and rolling long before people know.

I cant even watch the PA gov updates anymore. The incompetence listening to these clowns talk about shit they clearly dont understand makes my anxiety redline.

No one does 1:1 ICU assignments unless they’re ECMO or otherwise critical as fuck

hope this helps
