I wonder if the OP has ever been into the real world.

Have you ever seen countless people in an office all having to work together? I am 100% sure they all don't get along and hold hands while giggling about skittles and unicorns.

If your friends are getting turned away because of R&F, then i assume they don't leave the house very often.

"The internet is a communications tool used the world over where people can come together to bitch about movies and share pornography with one another."

Welcome to the internet.

I am seeing the direct opposite on here. You guys are actually worse than the wow commuity, least from the forums pov. Obviously not everyone is like that but the far majority is. If you are those people, why do you act like this on the forums? If you are not one of those why do you think they do it and does it bother you can downgrade your joy for playing on this server?

My personal opinion, i find it horrible and when i come to the boards to try to find info i get a sense of man...these guys are elitist douchebags why would i want to play with any of them?

your 2cp?

hell, i dont think fourthmeal can ever bring any useful information to the table then ramble about tacos, and shit beans, or make more of a effort to type a

sentence longer then 3-4 words at a time, though i have often seen a semi-

paragraph from him, though i partly share with the common-wealth of ideas hippies have shared in this world to bring peace, but more often with thc on the brain, not all, share only a few words, that dont bring a vastness of

understanding, im not really intending to shit on you FM, but c'mon, all you do is post tidbits to get your post count up, though i am glad that you progressed a

bit away from how awesome you think taco bell is, at least taco bell still is better food then mcdonalds

This.

Also, this thread should probably be moved to R&F now....

The OP's post raises an interesting assertion. I believe there is some degree of validity in it. I agree that the forums are harsher than one would expect for people who cut their teeth on the original EQ in the classic time era.

The question is asked is, "Why?". I'll give my opinion on that too, since the OP invited me to do so. I think it is a combination of these factors:

1) Internet Tough-guy Syndrome. As people have grown used to the internet over the years, and grown used to posting on forums, they have seen and discovered that one can make outrageously offensive statements in this medium with little or no fear of reprisal. Some of the stuff said here would warrant an instant punch in the mouth in the real world, but that is not possible here, so there ya go - there is no fear of reprisal. Now in game, there is also no punch in the mouth, but there is reputation and that can get around, so perhaps that keeps the lid on some of the crap in-game, making the boards a little harsher in comparison.

2) The Original EQ crowd has grown older and thus, (mostly) have matured. As one grows older, one realizes that youth tends to have a built-in degree of brashness associated with it. Only aging will cure it (for some people anyway - the rest are just punks or asshats). There are now a fair percentage of people playing that never did play the original EQ and a lot of them are younger in comparison to the now older original players. Their comments, on the average, tend to be more brash.

3) There some to be a number of would be PVPers hanging around the game and the forum. This number is probably escalated because a PVP server may be created at some point - by the same wonderful people that created/create P99. PVPers tend - again, on average - to be a bit more in your face, a bit more insensitve, than the average mud->fantasy MMORPG player. I would argue that the playerbase of the original EQ in the classic era was represented more by the fantasy PVE lover than the PVP lover.

Is it sad? It is kinda sad, I think. However, it certainly doesn't bother those that like to throw out phrases like "grow a pair", "carebear/bluebie" or "QQ a little more". I think those people actually LIKE the conflict. Perhaps it is a bit of a PVP fix for them. Not my cup of tea, but no real way to avoid it happening, unless you keep your posts so innocous as to be almost pointless, or if they are completely informational.

This is a really interesting idea which I have agreed with for a while. Trollin is definitely a form of entertainment for some people, and the relative anonymity the internet provides is the perfect cover behind which to be a relative badguy. Keep that stuff on 4chan imo, it only serves to junk up any other sort of community!

LOL i love how you say that shit about fourthmeal and then you post this. Hypocrite loser.

Also to OP....Keep in mind that there are tons of trolls who ruin (but IMO make this forum interesting) this forum to newcomers that don't even play on this server. And also the opposite, many many players on this server don't post/read on this forum.
