GeBs are pretty standard until Velious because most other feet items suck. cheap alternatives are wolf-fur slippers for the 20 mana, or kobold-hide boots for 10 hp...any real alternatives are a real pain to acquire. Even Crysosilk/Insidious aren't really great alternatives to GEBs - 15 hp, whooptee doo.
