I’ve only played three classes on this server untwinked. I started when the server opened and I leveled a Shaman up to 50 and was still wearing banded and basic leather armor. Shortly after making the Shaman I had also made an Enchanter which I leveled with no real twink gear. They were both a lot of fun....the Shaman has something new and big to look forward to at 24 and at 34, and something about having a pet just made the game feel so refreshing and exciting to me after having leveled so long without one. Enchanter was just awesome because without gear they were still insanely powerful.

I also did a ranger years later just to see if I could and I only made it to level 32 before caving and twinking. The melee untwined was much more brutal and much less fun for me

i haven't hit 60 ever and some how managed to have a great time dungeon crawling
You're jaded because you dinged on our last kill leaving Dalnir last night. Crawl for 4 hours and ding on last kill in Dalnir = rosy colored glasses. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

To the OP - any class can be untwinked, but prepare for the twinks in PUGs to give you a hard time about it. My cleric (Ahkwa) heals just fine, and Lulz (and plenty of others) can testify that minus the occasional "/g OOM" notices, I do just fine untwinked. I have gear, but I quested/looted it myself and my guild doesn't allow shopping at the EC tunnel.\

For soloing untwinked - NEC and ENC are top, MAG/DRU/WIZ/SHM after that, BRD if you feel like disrupting zones and being a "swarmed to 50s, now what?" teammate.

Hard for me to comment on the whole untwinked thing - however I had a tonne of fun with my first char (DE SK). Part of that may have just been returning to EQ after 7 years away.

I felt pretty badass in my nearly full set of quested Darkforge after continuously dragging groups to CT.

Level 35 finally broke me back in classic 2010 during offpeak playtimes and I rolled my enc with the thought to come back to my SK. I have re geared him a couple of times but never actually made and traction on levelling him.

On my enc as soon as I hit the right level to have the illusions spells I needed I did the Stein of Moggok Quest 10ish times to farm enough to get the gear that lasted me most of the way through Kunark.

I mostly play casters, and twinking doesn't change the lower levels that much over untwinked. Bigger mana/HP sure, but you aren't invincible, just have more room for error.

Untwinked melee, with a server this mature and so much twink in pickup groups? Yeah, that is the next challenge I fear, as my next ALS project is likely a warrior. Hoping having a rezzbot on standby will let groups forgive what will be untwinked ALS goodness.

Enchanter , althou I was "twinked" in that I had some CHA gear and a G.ring

But the difference between that and a untwinked ENC won't be huge
Wut? G ring changes the game. Actually, so does CHA for a chanter.

Dark elf = hide. Untwinked, semi-reliable charm break.

I had a lot of fun with my Wizard, being almost exclusively a solo class on p99. They have a lot of utility, versatility, and survivability in the open world and in dungeons. They're very self-sufficient. Ports (obvioulsy), excellent roots and snares, both types of invis, stuns, big & efficient single target, quad, and aoe nukes in different elemental flavors, and several good self-buffs.

And once you can quad kite in the mid-late 30s you can rocket into the mid 50s very rapidly.

It's a fun class to be able to explore the world and do a lot of quests and off the beaten path camps and stuff. Plus now at 60 with some decent gear I can camp most old world dungeons solo and run many quests to twink my other characters. [You must be logged in to view images. If you're brave, adventurous, and clever you can do all sorts of fun things that people might not expect.

They're not a desired class in a group setting unfortunately, so bear that in mind. You will be playing solo most of the time. But as a utility class for the solo player without huge blocks of time to commit to the game, it's been a good choice.

A druid would probably fit this description, too, while offering some more groupability. But wizards have more firepower at their disposal and invis vs undead opens up a lot of areas that would be a huge pain in the ass as a druid. Plus there are too many druids on p99 [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

there is no class in this game that can face tank the mobs while soloing, monk is the only one that could even attempt to claim such a thing but it requires very good gear.

Also everyone's opinion on what "can solo" means is different. Can solo, in order of how easily:

Chanter (charm pet, most powerful soloer in the game, needs gear and levels to work),
Shaman (root rot, 2nd Easiest but requires gear / levels / drop spells that cost a ton),
Necro (mostly fear kite strategies, no gear requirement to speak of),
Wiz / Druid / Bard (kiting only),
Monk (rly only viable with very good gear, but ppl do try anyway),
Mage (not sure how this works but I know its better then ranger),
SK / Ranger (imo its not viable at all, but it is possible with very specific mobs and strat)

Mages are great soloers, but they fall off at end game.
