If this community would pledge thousands to Brad McQuaid, my guess is that they would give the same to Rogean and Nilbog to fund a reset server. My guess is that it is too much of a hassle for them to manage another one.
As soon as money gets involved Daybreak is on the phone. Donations is about as far as it's allowed to go. If there were some wink wink soft hints about a green server if the costs could be covered, I'm sure that would please everyone involved ^^

Nostalrius still hasn't given out the code for their server. All the Valkyrie staff has at the moment in hosting the latest incarnation of it is the player character database. They're still having to use their older Elysium / Valkyrie hybrid code server for the players. I know this because I tested out WPE on the server as well as MPQ modified files to give myself a GM name as well as turn doors into torches for the hell of it.

On old Nost and Kronos, WPE will be detected and get you banned the moment you log into the game world from the char select screen because their Warden isn't shit. Valkyrie's version of Nost? Nope. Modify your created packet, save it for upload, and jam on in. Their Warden is nearly disabled due to too many false positives that banned hundreds of people and they didn't know what else to do lol.

This is the shit I'm talking about. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tMexqfxDjT4

They openly stated that theyre code will be out there to the public try again

Release the code and make it free & open. Unless there's something binding them from doing so? These threads would deteriorate since there'd be more classic server options and the lessened population would allow for more open game play for all. Win/Win

Allow transfers and you'd have a triple win.

Trying to think of a good reason why they wouldn't make it open source. Can anybody think of a good reason? Surely it couldn't have anything to do with money right?

Hmm, I'd think Daybreak would crap a Vulak if they charged though. Anyone got any inside info?

am I missing the part where p99 has a lot of innovative or hard-to-reproduce code? server-wise the main addition seems to be... pathing stuff. the anti-cheat/client-gimping stuff would be tough to start from scratch, but a lot (most? all?) of it works out of the box, so it would be enough to keep the p99-made dll around. the rest is mostly just a long list of tweaks and quest scripts that a lot of p99 players could probably recite from memory by now

the database of mostly era-appropriate items and npc stats and spawns are where the real money is.
