I kind of figured that, too. I wanted to get involved in the community again and this was a great opportunity. It was an hour and forty-five minute walk from Felwithe to Misty Thicket, but it was worth it if only to get my bearings again in this crazy, unforgiving world of EQ.

I left early since I knew I was not going to be able to answer anything. It was almost like some people had things prepped on hot bar buttons for answers for stuff like races and things. I couldn't type fast enough before there was a wall of red text.
Nice to see a coordinated effort at least.

Some of them weren't too bad, but even someone like myself that's played since 2000, I didn't know. Then again, I don't keep up on Lore; I just like to play the game.

To be honest it was pretty silly for the purpose it was trying to achieve. The people that needed the low end gear had no chance of answering anything. So you ended up making an event for EQ vets to win things like advisor robes and wraith bone hammers. Goes real well with that fungi lol.....

All in all it was better then no event at all but if you're gonna give away low end gear make damn sure new players are likely to get it. Hell you would have been better off just handing it to random lv 5's in neriak then risking it all go to rich vets(which it almost all did).

I agree, that the quiz was not aimed at EQ newbies. But it was, however, aimed at P1999 newbies. These two categories are usually not the one and same. I assume that most people that start playing here are actually EQ veterans and as such, they should've known the answers to some of those questions. Some were definitely too obscure and had to be googled, but there were plenty that even I knew, despite not having played EQ since 2005 prior to starting on this server a short while ago.

This...I saw so many "newbies" running around with twink gear, and they were the ones their trying to answer questions to obtain the plat and gear...I got lucky and answered a couple questions (one of which I actually supplied) otherwise I very well might have left with nothing but the training robe on my back and my starting dagger in hand...

I was online when this was going on but when I saw the population in misty thicket I realized that it was impossible that even half the people were actual newbies to the server. I still appreciate the thought for running an event like this, but just like what's been said above, my assumption is the gear would be going to the twinked vets. Those are the people that ruin events like this for the newbies, so again, thank you for running the event in the first place!

A suggestion for next time would be to get a roll call in advance on the forums but only allow people that have posted recently (before your initial post) in the starter forums. Allow those people to receive priority in the event (maybe a 2 minute head start over others).

Unfortunately, I didn't join the community until after this event, but I've heard enough grumbling in this forum about what happened to know that my not being around was probably for the best. These same newbie trivia nights happen in other MMO's I've played and they're always someone's attempt at giving their twinked friends more valuables. It's like Bush and Haliburton after 9/11. That's an extreme comparison obviously, but the basic idea still holds true. In reality a true newbie isn't going to know the answers to 90% of the questions, which means that the people who really need the money and gear are at a disadvantage to the people with knowledge who don't need the money and gear.
