Why do people trash talk the Ranger?

I just thought I should add this.

I was recently in a kick-ass BnB group with a ranger as our tank. Group consisted of a Bard, enchanter, monk (puller), rogue and druid. That's right the only healer was a level 47 druid and the tank was a 47 or 48 ranger. Stayed there for hours. Not a single death, steady exp. No down time except for AFK or LD.

The ranger was getting nothing but 270HP greater heals and group regen and was using flame lick and root.

Fuck all the haters!

Our core group was an SK, ranger, druid, mage, cleric and enchanter during kunark. we did really good and could do anything outside of a raid mob. I don't think adding another class other than ranger would have added anything, really. a ranger with decent weapons and gear can really do good dps in Kunark.

I bolded the things that MADE that group work... I'm sorry but playing an SK I can pull several mobs and tank them just fine. Let's see your ranger chain pull like that for an AoE group

You didn't see a lot of ranger bashing until The Fellowship of the Ring came out, at which point every bow class in every video game became the most popular with young internet tough guys who thought Orlando Bloom was dreamy.....

This phenomenon continues to this day. A TON of imbeciles roll rangers because they want to be as cool as Legolas. The same is true of the hunter class in WoW, the hunter class (obviously) in LotRO, the archer classes in DAoC, etc.

Add this to the fact that several rangers on P99 are trying to play the class the same way they played it in 2005...

Truth is, there is no such thing as a bad ranger. Just bad players, the majority of which have multiple alts on which they equally suck. Having said that, if you come across a wood elf ranger named Legolias, Legolasx, Lagolass, or any douchey variation thereof, just know they WILL try to tank, they WILL need on everthing that drops, and they DO have aspirations of plundering Will Turner's booty.

Wrong. Ranger bashing occurred loooooong before the LOTR movies came out. In 2001, the popular saying was "Ranger down!" due to the fact that Rangers always seemed to die during Kael raids.

I grew up with a WE ranger from orc hill (at lvl 4 shortly before kunark was released) to farming mobs in HoHa... shiny brass shields to the windblade and practically every drop in between. He tanked *everything* and got us through every single mob our little cadre of non-affiliated hardcore players could handle, from Nagafen to Doomshade in UP. We took down Klandicar with seven people Mid-Luclin (pre-grieg's end) with 5 of the 7 sporting kunark level gear just for the fuck of it.

His name was Ieawenpo - and I hope that he finds his way here to P1999 - cause his ability would put all of you to shame, and I mean 'all of you' from the most ice ridden hoar-frosted regions of my heart.

Rangers are only bullshit in the hands of bullshit players... I watched this guy man up and handle anything we wanted to take down.

N' despite all you naysayers who lament on the amount of heals that had to be laid down - he constantly operated on a one Cleric one patch healer status... Cecil was the Cleric (HE) Bastile or Shoud were the Patchers (WE druids) We wiped maybe, in our 150+ raid targets.. 10.. 12 times, and he tanked every single time with a ranger by the name of Trajen as his off-tank 90% of the time (thank you guys for getting my monkey his earring of voracity off of DS!)

I have a low level ranger on p99.
I play mostly on EZ server though.

I was pulling and tanking bugs and bats on my 43 or 44 ranger the other day. The cleric didn't seem to need any more med breaks than with any other tank. I am twinked to shit, though.
