shotgun

2 C-clamps
and a big "fuck you" poster

If there is a dead body and blood everywhere when you get back, someone entered your room.

In the beginning of this thread i was going to suggest this, but then I imagine the lawsuit wouldn't be too fun. I would grab a bunch of rusty nails, nail it through a piece of plywood and put it behind your door on the floor.

This is probably the best suggestion you are going to get. You also shouldn't stop with just the door. Smear feces over your cookware, clothes, towels, anything of yours you think your roommate is using unjustly. You will catch him red handed!
You mean brown handed?

Tamper Evident Counter Espionage Trap
by Hasbinbad

A small piece of tin foil will bend easily and not return to it's unbent shape.

You can draw a template of a complex hard to duplicate shape, and cut it out of the foil VERY CAREFULLY. The more unbent the foil is, the better tamper-evident trap you can set.

Then tape the foil in such a way that it will bend when the door opens.

Even if the thief knows about the trap, when they go to try and replicate the foil, it will be difficult, and you will have the exact template shape to tell you whether or not it's a fake.

Also, you can use hot glue instead of tape and acrylic paint the same color as some part of your door to make the trap even less noticeable.

I have also used wax seals to great effect. You don't need much wax, and you can use any unique object (such as a piece of jewelry) to give you a recognizable impression.

Important to seal the wax to each surface and make the bridge flimsier than the stick.. it's something you have to fool with, but it's much less noticeable than tape/hair.
