Would the name: Niger Spearchucker be offensive? The first is a country and the last is an activity.

I’ll play a little devil’s advocate because I used to think this as well. I think the offended people know they can use ignore but it’s not only about censorship, they want punishment. A ban is punishment

While I don’t like cancel culture I do respect the effectiveness of negative reinforcement to change behaviors, assuming that is the most effective way
It's a balance and intent, along with the reinforcement of the staff. While I don't agree in whole with how naming policies are here in changing harmless or silly things, yeah if someone is named Bodybaggs Forotherraces (an example of a name I've seen back when I fucked around other EQEMU servers), I'm gonna think yeah....that warrants it.

You can be offended at anything you want, report it all you want, but if it's a stretch or silly people are gonna mock it or ignore it. If that happens often, maybe do some self reflection, same if all your edgy names keep getting changed.

Intent is a big part I say grow up.
Growing up is developing thicker skin against obvious trolls, so thanks for agreeing with me.

I also love people like you that think you can glean all people's intent like magic. I bet you have a whole list of items you consider hate speech.

"Jooh Dirtyrat" -- don't need to glean much to understand intent there. I can't say what the guy is going for exactly, but it sure ain't wholesome inclusive fun.

Also, growing up is learning to play nice with others in public. Sometimes you just gotta keep the off-color jokes to your own in-group.

If you think it's unoffensive, wear a shirt that says "Jooh Dirtyrat" in public and see if people find that clever and appropriate.

Stop crying it obviously stands for "you dirty rat " in an Italian accent or just because he couldn't make his name you .... and I would love a shirt that said that . I see nothing wrong with either version . But then again I would love a short with Jesus on a cross and it says Jooh wrong ! He has returned !
