an Enchanter can tell its Charmed pet to taunt and it will start taunting, can a necro not tell its charmed skellies to? D:

and your right about the ridiculous dps aggro from charmed mobs. half the time i forget to tell it to start taunting, its just that uber.

Actually I was asking a serious question but your lack of knowledge on the subject is glaring for someone who has done "plenty of charming". I've always turned on taunt and assumed it was working, I was simply asking you if the battle spam that says they were taunting was legit or not. Some say it doesn't work even if it says so, but from my testing last night it does. Some mobs simply don't have taunt as a skill so even if you tell them they won't do it. However other mobs, specifically warrior mobs, will actually continually taunt in battle. I believe these ones are actually in fact taunting due to the constant updates they give, and I've seen them pull aggro back from a mob that was starting to run towards me.

Notice how both the gnolls and ogre guards actually taunt during their battle spam, while the spectres only accept my command but never actually taunt. Maybe they aren't supposed to, maybe it's broken, but some charmed pets do seem to be in fact taunting.

Charmed pets dont taunt bro. Hes just doing rediculous dps.
Charmed pets dont need to taunt really, their dps is good as is but if you manually turn on taunt they will. Or at least they did last I tried it before Kunark.

Player pet agro is extremely underpowered and could probably use some looking into. This was nerfed sometime after chain petting mobs in sky became fashionable, maybe now that this isn't necessary it can be reversed unless people decide to do that again on raid targets. I remember using a pet to tank the event in western wastes (for bracer of scavenging?) because the giants were linked a bit. You could split off the named one and CH on a pet which caused no agro but players could still dps the mob as long as they didn't eclipse pet threat.

You're level 5. Stop complaining. Expect to kite with your pet as they won't make for a decent tank until much later. Think of the necro pet as the best dot you have. 1-12 on a necro is a bit rough, after that it's smooth sailing to 60. Send pet - snare - fear - dot - rinse/repeat.

It gets better. My necro is 24 now and it's the easiest thing I've ever done.

I didn't seem to have any problems leveling with my Necro, ever...
You're not even giving it a chance. You're level 5, you don't have your full arsenal of spells yet. Listen to Roanoke and give it a chance. You can't expect to send your pet in and kill everything in the game solo while you AFK for sandwiches. You need to help your pet once in a while, and yes, tanking for your pet should be juggled every once in a while. I'm level 56 and I still tank for pet sometimes. Life tap tanking pwns.

Low and behold I realize that the pets have been nerfed almost to uselessness. They can't keep aggro - even one lifetap at 50% hps makes them target me and I can get rid of them.
Having leveled an enchanter up i was convinced our crappy summoned pet was the worst pet the game could possibly have.... i was wrong. I made a necro and leveled it to 24 and said screw this, this pet sucks.

Oh Lawd, this is the funniest thing I have read today, thanks for that.

Necro pets taunt, assuming the mob they are killing is lower level than the pet itself (not the Necro). Necros, on the other hand, shouldn't EVER be killing mobs that are dark blue to their own pet, so in that case pet taunt is worthless. I have no problem soloing low-con reds and yellows on my necromancer using nothing but snare, disease cloud to keep agro on me, and sending my pet to attack.

Charmed pets do not taunt. It doesn't matter if they show the message "taunting attacker master" they will not actually taunt a mob and gain agro that way. They may gain agro through DPS, but not through taunt.

Also, Necros don't "charm their skellies." It's a summoned pet. Undead charm works the same way normal charm works (aside from CHA not affecting Necro/Druid charm) but these mechanics are different from Mage/Necromancer pet summon spells.
