How the database field being used gets reset. Killing it doesnt reset the space the quest script is using
So somebody can troll\grief every quest npc in the game by just handing them one of the turn in items at any time? Cause that sucks.

If a quest needs items A B C and D to complete, but the npc is already holding item C, what happens if somebody comes along and hands in all four items? Does the duplicate item C just get merged into the existing item C and the quest finished normally? Or can the server think you handed in 2x item C plus two others and eat all of them?

Submitted Previous link incorrectly.

Also, someone updated this page, so it doesn’t include the 4 muffin method. Thank you

I think I’ll go roll a Druid named Fourmuffins

It should credit the extra c for the next player, but a few times p99 has been shown to have quest glitches dissimilar to the live experience so i am interested to see if anyone has investigated more thoroughly.

Does giving 4 muffins reset Hasten's coin inventory as well? Or just resets the items that have been given to him? Heard secondhand about a failed JBoots MQ today where the inventory supposedly was cleared by the buyer with 4 muffins. The MQ seller handed in the Ring and the Rapier and, to his disappointment, received the Jboots. Presumably someone sabotaged the seller with the gold ahead of time.

thanks
Muffin trick does not work on P99. Only a server reset clears quest inventory.

(As to the origin of the "muffin trick" rumor - was it some post-Velious mechanic? Or was it implemented on some other custom server?)

I don't know what to tell ya. It sucks this happened. I can't think of a way to prevent it.

So... wouldn't this mean that any npc that gets "out of sync" mq wise will eff up every single attempted turn in until a legitimate "server reset"? Does a quake reset this inventory? Something is not adding up.

Yea I see what you’re saying. What happens if you give hasten 500 shadowed rapiers and 500x3250 gold. Does that mean the next 500 Ring of the Ancient Turn ins are not MQable?

You should see a quest NPC as a portal for you to interact with a quest inventory. Killing it doesn't remove or reset the inventory, it just closes the portal until respawn. A full server restart (NOT a quake, but a full restart) resets everything like its a full reboot.

If a quest needs A/B/C/D to complete, someone hands in C, and someone else hands in A/B/C/D, the following happens: player #2 gets the item reward for handing in A/B/D, the only items needed. Player 2 then also hands in C, which wasn't needed, once more stacking the NPC with item C.

This is why you should, if you are able to do so (i.e. if you are completing a quest yourself), hand in items one at a time. If the NPC was messed up, you 'fix' the NPC this way by completing the item, and you get to keep the item that someone else already handed in.

This stuff is often used on velious quest turnins because some gems are cheap, so people try to fish for free items by turning in just the gems.

Thanks that all makes sense. It also explains why staff do not litigate MQ misfires and I don't blame them.
