Dangerous chemicals on Train that has derailed in Ohio
Ohio catastrophe is ‘wake-up call’ to dangers of deadly train derailments
About 5000 affected by this derailment. Phosgene was carried on the train and it has mixed with hydrogen to create Phosgene which if breathed in can cause a host of problems resulting in death. There was a small explosion from the train but it was contained. Residents in a 10 mile radius of the crash around East Palestine were evacuated. Residents return to find their animals dead on their farms. Phosgene and hydrogen chloride plume across the region is highly toxic. There is more concern that this gas will seeps into the ground, crops and river water that heads towards the Mississippi River will be affected. Phosgene oxime does not last in the environment for very long. It breaks down in soil within 2 hours when temperatures are normal, and it breaks down in water within a few days. | ||
