Give me a good porter or stout any day of the week, hate the over hopped IPA flavoring.

Jester King Brewing out of Austin makes some pretty rad beer as well. It's nice to see some parts of Texas contributing to society, finally. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.] Barrel aging is where it's at! I do see a lot of misdirection here though. Beer is supposed to be accessible, just like any other beverage with complex personality. If you approach it from the perspective of enjoying the sensory experience, like wine, you may be delighted (or disgusted!). I can describe a beer, cider or wine to you all day, but why? Instead let your senses dictate what you like (or dislike) about a beverage. Elitism has no place around something crafted by talented and passionate people. If you like that sort of thing, by all means wait in line for Russian River's Pliny the Younger. Yeah, it is damn good, but let's not get carried away. On the other side, don't let asshole companies like AB/InBev play on your dislike of the latest beer trend in order to sell you more beer made from the cheapest materials available. Those assholes attempt to get consumers to shun the craft industry by playing on their confusion over beer trends and complex flavors while at the same time buying up some of the more popular soon-to-not-be-craft breweries in order to cut off competition. It is a smart business tactic, and they obviously have the money to pull it off globally. But, it is not so good for the industry (and neither is their buying up of hop farms in smaller markets such as South Africa). The consumer wants to be recognized as someone who appreciates a damn fine beer these days. Tap takeovers, release events, tastings, etc are all the rage because craft beverage (especially beer at this time) is accessible and fun. "Rare" beers are fun, and appreciated by your beer-loving pals when you bust it out. Anyways, raise a glass/can/bottle of your Treehouse (heard of them, I think, and probably have had something by them), Russian River Brewing, or Brasserie-Brouwerij Cantillon, make your toast, and have a deep fucking drink. You are in beverage country, bitches. | |||
