Game Mechanics: Pets gone mad

Noticed this in oasis when I was PLing a friend. Right clicked Focus item for Reclaim and it stuck around, owning this SG. And I'm like WTF GO AWAY and I spammed "Go away" button and it stayed there even though it had already said "(pet) disperses." Spammed the button and kept getting "You do not have a pet." messages.

WTF KOBOBER, WTF.

(I have a feeling this was added to nerf mage PL-ing, just a theory).

You won't gain your mana back but it will insta-poof your pet from any distance... even when /pet go away doesn't work.

I have a feeling the same thing would have happened had I used the boots. Gotten the "Jobober disperses" message but still seeing him fighting, health on the mob going down, and not seeing pet die until after the fight. I suppose I could try it, if it would be helpful information.

Edit: I say I think it would've still happened that way because someone else said they gated and their pet stayed around, so I figured invising might not work either. Also, it'd be nice to figure out in what situations does this happen, every time, only with certain mobs, etc.
