Train a bunch of mobs but instead of flopping them on the caster just say something like: If you kill me we're both fukkn done for m8. Then FD them away and tell them you are now brothers for both staring death in the face.
After such a manly display they will have no choice but to buff you and give you some peridots.

That would circumvent the whole level range pvp system they have. Which I don't think I like. Opens up single group members to attack while the rest of your group just watches. Lineage 2 had a system where it was completely ffa pvp, but you got flagged for combat for 2 mins when you attacked or retaliated. If you killed someone who didn't retaliate you got a pk point instead of a pvp point, you'd turn red, and would drop gear on death until you worked your karma off.
Only RPK system I've ever liked in a game. Once the game went F2P, they ruined the karma system and took the last good thing about the game with it. | ||

I am inclined to agree with OP. Trains are are an entirely reasonable combat tactic and I don't think it trivializes the player-player aspect of the engagement, rather it reinforces the need for social interaction and cooperation that EQ is built upon. The more folks you are able to recruit to your team, the less of a concern trains become and the more empowered you become to respond in kind ^^
