Either way I'm happy that we'll have the dire wolf models. They won't display NPC names over their head, correct?

for what its worth. I spent countless hours with a dire charmed drakkel dire wolf killing giants for the drops for yelinak faction. I had the tormax head and needed the faction. this was during PoP era and the dire wolves then had the old model. I bet if you cheked it on EQmac they may still as well

What file is the wolf model pulled from?

And, what is the name of the model inside the file?

Can check this on the Trilogy client, have it installed.
